   From what I understand the big bang theory and quantum mechanics are not mutually exclusive, but we just do not have the mathematical means to bring the theories together.

      I do have some rudimentary understanding of both the big bang and quantum mechanics. I also understand the concept of theory which is what a lot of the information about both involves. What is exciting is when theory leads to something tangible, at one point the reason for illness was a theory but in trying to understand the theory and prove it we started to find effective ways of preventing and treating illness and in understanding how micro organisms work it has moved from theory to fact in most cases. One recent development in science are a new way of collecting renewable energy from the infra red radiation that is given off from everything and is a part of the back ground radiation of the universe going straight back to the big bang. If it wasn't for the proposal of theories and the quest to prove or disprove theory we would not make significant advances. Seems to me that you could do to understand scientific scrutiny more and understand the difficult task of turning theory into fact (it is a very hard thing and more theories are disproved then proved to be fact, and many theories are unable to be tested for many reasons, one of which being that the act of observation changes the outcome).

         Not sure, I suppose we need to define the races in question.
         
         If we distinguish between believers and non-believers as two separate races, then are we distinguishing if the believers accept something with or without evidence and the non-believers simply understand the evidence at hand suggests the best possible explanation? Or, something else?

   Einstein died confused by quantum mechanics. The cause of the "big bang" still confuses the greatest minds produced to date.

   Obviously both have been proven scientifically, through theory and experiment.  If I say I have no problem with both being right although being mutually exclusive, I guess I must be more in the quantum camp.  The simplest explanation is that quantum theory is for the very small subatomic world and relativity is for the very big world and Newton's science is for the world we live in everyday.

   Both completely seperate braches of physics. Both have hypothisis and theories which are consistantly evolving, howver the fundermentals of both branches have been proven fact beyond any doubt.
