I just discovered HugPages last night and I know it will take some time to learn my way around. I have a few short stories I have written, but cannot figure out if fiction is allowed?

    Thanks for answering,
    MissDazey

MissDazey, if your goal is to end up publishing those short stories, you might not want to publish them on HubPages.  Many (not all) magazines and online publishing sites won't accept work that has been published elsewhere, including on the internet.

I keep my paper publishing content separate from my online content.

It's certainly allowed, but is unlikely to be very lucrative.

Ah, but some people write just for the joy of it, Paul.  I've read many hubbers say the income is not why they write here.  It certainly isn't why I write here.  I just like the place.

Yes, I know -- and that's great.  I just wanted to set the right expectation.

Gather.com is a writer's community that's very popular.  Don't know about income from it, though.

I, personally, would love to read some good fiction.  I've written a few short stories myself, but I'm afraid if I put them online, someone would steal them.  If you do post them, make sure to write down the date and time you posted them, and put the copyright on them.

I'm looking forward to reading some of them.

I've made very small amounts from fiction on HubPages but you get relatively low traffic and low CTR (number of clicks per 100 impressions).  Also fiction will tend to attract low paying adverts.

I wrote a tongue in cheek, fictional piece about Kylie Minogue which has paid a little via Kylie merchandise and gig tickets.  I also wrote a serial about a coffee romance which paid up once (you've guessed it, via coffee ads).  Even fiction can be targeted to high paying keywords.

But I agree that if you want to make money then focus on 'how to' articles and target areas like technology and high value consumer products rather than fiction.
