Has Your Idea Of What Cold Is Changed?

   This past month has been extremely cold; I am hard pushed to remember a time in the past where it has reached such low temperatures.
   
   I was just having a chat and realised that I now see -11°C as “not too bad”. How my perspectives have changed in the past month.
   
   How are you handling the colder temperatures, if you’re feeling them just now?

         It doesn't get very cold in the summertime there in Oz does it, darkside?
         
         It's as cold as it has been in years here...currently 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
         
         EDIT How am I handling it? Inside with ample heat and about to go get in bed under the blanket. I would hibernate if I could.

            Depends where you are. It's a big place, the further south you go the cooler it gets. A few years ago I was in Tasmania at the end of summer and the locals were "cold enough for ya?" knowing I was from further north.
            
            It wasn't anything I couldn't handle, but a lot like the Blue Mountains in autumn. But that was summer. So I'd hate to think what winter was like there.
            
            Further north from me is Queensland, and it gets far too hot there for my liking.

   Actually, I can't help much with this one.  Having grown up in western Montana when many a time in deep midwinter we were out there pitching hay off a wagon to feed the cattle at -40 degrees FAHRENHEIT (whatever that is in Celsius), long before they came up  with the concept of "wind chill"...and then in the winter of 1983-84, in north central Montana, it reached -46 degrees and the frost was pretty dramatic on the INSIDES of the walls of our mobile home....
   
   Nope.  The fourteen degrees (F) it hit here recently doesn't seem all that chilly despite the fact that THIS winter, here in southern Arizona, I sleep in an unheated steel storage shed....
   
   Do appreciate being able to snuggle down under those three  marvelous Wal-Mart blankets, though...and I don't take a whole lot of extra time when Nature calls in the middle of the night, either.

   We have icicles hanging from the roof in Hertfordshire - never seen that around here before!  Parts of the UK -21c last night!

      Living right on the easternmost tip of Kent I now realise how lucky I am.  We've got a bit of snow and the temperature hovers around freezing during the day, but it's not as bad as the rest of the country.
      
      Have you noticed that the British media seems to have gone strangely silent on the subject of global warming?

         I'm in Sussex, and although it's chilly, we don't have so much snow here on the coast, as we did before Christmas. I remember far worse winters in the 70s and 80s, but I don't remember people making as much fuss as they are at the moment. Perhaps I was just young and oblivious in those days, or maybe we weren't as pampered and cossetted 30 years ago!

   We have been hovering about minus 20 here and it's supposed to get worse. While I don't like it I simply think back to days in Northern Alberta when minus 45 (same temperature in F and C) was the norm, and I feel okay about minus 20. At least at these temps your car starts, your brakes and transmission work, and your tires aren't square

   I'm in the south east of the UK and it's been very cold here - I wouldn't say it's changed my opinion of what's cold though. I much prefer this weather to constant rain!

   Dam chilly here for my sorry ass, and now more snow coming from the north across Lake Huron and Erie for a double whammy effect. I'm gonna snuggle with me hounds. LOL

   4 degrees F this am. A bit warmer then usual for this time of year. We have a woodstove, I keep the fire going. A huge part of my summer involves cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood, to be ready for winter. Its just life, here.

   Houston, Texas...reporting in at 22 degrees to 27 degrees (Houston covers alot of turf) this morning...one of the coldest winters we have had in a long while...deff...one of the ones where we have had the earliest serious freezes...I can remember!

    It never gets cold here so no idea what cold means. But then again, even the 'warm' weather in San Francisco, California is already cold for me.
    
    Been reading the news, hope the hubbers who are affected by the 'cold snap' in the U. S. and the U. K. are doing okay.
