It's easy to get a reputation for spamming. All you have to do is make multiple and identical or completely off-topic posts on guestbooks, blogs or feedback forms all pointing back to your pride and joy, usually your website and hub.
It's a sure fire way to really piss people off.
Reputation is everything. Whether online or in the real world.
And it is relatively easier to get a good reputation online. Think about it, you don't need to look attractive or dress sharp. You just need to write good.
If you've written a solid hub with good information, let it stand on its own merits. Don't get desperate. Don't get frustrated that it hasn't earned anything in the first three weeks of joining HubPages (or any other site). Let me tell you know, this is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You can make money, but you've got to do it by working hard and thinking smart.
Writing well comes with practice. Learning how to market and promote your hubs (or websites) comes from persistence. And also apply a good dose of patience for both.
And now an example of how not to promote your website.
He went from here to there... good gosh!
Can't HP just ban his IP range from their end?

I think this is the same guy that was advertising for a writer in the Digital Point Forum awhile back.
He's associated with some big names (at least so his hub alludes), but his use of the Law of Attraction may not be attracting what he's hoping for. ![]()
