Seriously, ur not going to include Tony Martin, Glenn Hughes or Ian or Ray Gillen. What kind of Sabbath fan are you?! Only teasing. For me it's all Ozzy. I honestly dont know why they didnt have enough integrity to just change the name of the band. Their style was much different with Dio, and Dio hated singing Ozzy's songs. I saw them at the Roseland in '94 with Tony Martin singing and it was horrifying, to say the least. Tony introduced himself to the audience and then pointed behind to Tony, Geezer and Vinny and said 'I think you know who these guys are' and then they went into the next song. It's ok, I was there to see Motorhead who played earlier in the evening.

Do we have to choose? sad
I'll have to go with Dio then. When I need some Ozzy, I can grab some of his later stuff.

But, that's only because you're making me choose smile

The Mob Rules; Ozzy couldn't have pulled that one off, I don't think.

I would go with Ozzy, but I did like Dio on the Heaven and Hell album.  That was before he recorded all of his horrid solo crap (i.e. Rainbow in the Dork, er, Dark I mean), and before I realized that he looked like a possessed troll.

  26. profile image52
    geetarjimposted 14 years ago

Dio is untouchable.  Ozzy did a lot of great stuff with sabbath, but a lot of total rubbish too.  And having seen em both, I gotta say Dio just killed Ozzy live.

Black Sabbath is my all time favorite band...period. Ozzy Osbourne was, will be now and forever the voice of Black Sabbath. Check out the "PAST LIVES" cd and compare it to "LIVE EVIL"...there is no comparison. Cheers!

  37. William R. Wilson profile image60
William R. Wilsonposted 13 years ago

But you have to give the rest of the band props too.  Tony Iommi is one of the most innovative guitarists ever, responsible for a truly unique sound.

And Geezer and Bill did a great job as the rhythm section.

Ozzy was just a singer...  the music came from all of them together.

You have a point. loved it when Charlie Watts said to Mick Jagger "Don't you ever call me your f****** drummer -- you're my singer".

But my vote goes to Ozzy.

  38. Johnnie Black profile image61
    Johnnie Blackposted 13 years ago

I've seen them both live as well and I agree with the dude above who said that Dio just killed Ozzy.  It's not even a close run thing.  Dio is just several classes above Ozzy.  I still enjoy Ozzy era Sabbath, and his solo stuff though.

The early Sabbath stuff is the most seminal, but that's thanks to Tony and Geezer, not to Ozzy.

  39. OddDustin profile image60
    OddDustinposted 12 years ago

Ozzy is and will always be the singer for Sabbath. Dio is great but it's Dio not Sabbath.
