How do you surf the forums?

Hey Hubberville,

Just curious- How do you surf the forums? Do you have multiple windows or tabs open at once? Or do you use feed to scope comments made?

The main reason I ask is so to understand better about what's going on in the forums, as a whole.

I'm working on a side project and could use some help.

The project consists of a two main points. (1) Basis- there are 100,000+ members. (2) There are a handful, that are on constantly, some sporadically, some only for hours and some don't get on for days.

I would like to get a gist of how many people are actually in the forums? Ones that post almost regularly, so as to assess the value of the forum.

I would rather not say why I'm doing this project, but please note that it is rather important, so I can streamline my use of the forums.

As you already know, I am all over the forums, and I'm always watching something or another. With almost 13000 posts in under 4 months, I would definitely say I'm an active user.

For those who are new Welcome and to the Veterans' Hello. I spend all day working on hubs, creating new ideas and building more information on society. I appreciate all feedback.

  Hi Cags, I simply check out the feed and see what's happening in the forums and if it is interesting enough to comment on. If I am really struggling to fill my time I will check out the forums section directly and see if a subject matter jumps out and I want to comment on it.

  I use the forums quite a lot, I tend to comment then later just browse the 'posts by me' and look for any response or other interesting issues raised. I usually just use one window and flick around though. I'm less active right now because of a work overload mind, it'll be until early to mid February before I'm fully active.

I got most of my posts before the sandpit etc. Long old time ago I was trying to keep up with Misha...

I just look at the first page of forums, click what I like. If im looking for a topic I might go into hubber hangout or something.

an easy way is to just check out the number of posts next to the avatar. i'm continually opening and closing tabs and multitasking while at the forums. Some news .. some to just validate others comments by checking other sites.Tabbed browsings awesome!

  Yes, this would be an easy way, providing I had an entire list of all the hubbers, but I don't. And, I'm not going to ask HubPages for it, because that's their business. So, I am left to find other ways of doing it. Hence, this thread, which DREW you out. Which was my point.

  I would be considered an occasional hubber, by the relatively low number of forum posts I’ve made.
  
  I tend to look at the forum posts from the new style homepage, I’ve not used the new feed feature to a great extent until now but I'm still getting used to the look and feel of it.
  
  I guess if you were looking to gauge people forum involvement, you could also look at your fans, sorry followers, hubtivity and look at their forum activity from there.
  
  Would the new hub feed be able to help you out? From a quick browse at the filters, and a fair bit of effort it could be customised to give a broad view of forum activity.
  
  I became a Cagsil follower after seeing your comments in the forums.

1) I go from forum to jump to last post.
2) Then wrote something and jump back to first post.
3) Then to the first page of forums and find something else I want to participate.
4) Repeat #1.

Do you post for love or money? I didn't think you would get paid for posting - do you post in the forums as well as comments on hubs?

Personally, I check out the forums on a daily basis, but only comment occasionally if something relates. I'd rather be writing a hub or creating some art.

Well, I tried using the Customizable Home Page so I could easily monitor the forums I'm interested in, but that didn't work because I have to do too much scrolling down.

I alternate between clicking on the forums I like one by one(Need Help, Knowledge Exchange, Report a Problem, Hangout and Makeover), and scrolling down the "latest posts" - but that gets painful when the religious forums are humming.

I only ever have one window open. I'm usually on the forums while at work, so I have multiple work-related windows open at the same time.

I have multiple tabs open (Chrome) and flick back and forth thought the 'forum' link, and 'yours' as well as answering comments and checking others hubs...

I spend too much time on them, but then again I get inspired by what people say,especially in opposition to topics, and get hub ideas from them...

all sounds a bit serious, sorry is that OK?

I wasn't guessing. I just had to ask one question, so I could eliminate the number of option, for which, could occupy the chair. And, since you were so nice to provide any answer to my question, then it leaves me with only one guess. That would be YOU are the one who occupies it most often.

I haven't really had much time to check out the forums and I'm not quite sure how they work, so I tend to click on the main forums link and have a scan down the 'latest activity' list to see if anything catches my eye.

I hadn't even clicked on the new 'Feed' link until reading this thread, but now I think I may do so more often, probably have a couple of tabs open and go back and forth...

My main problem is that I tend to come on here last thing at night, or in the early hours - when I really should be getting to bed, as I just don't have time in the day, or even in the evening - despite being on my computer all day long!

One last point - I see the same people commenting on the forums (fora?!) all the time and you all seem to belong to an elite group so, as a newbie, it can feel a bit daunting and slightly scary trying to join in.
