I think I am using the correct term (on page).  Is their a limit to the number of links you should have on your home page to other pages in your site.  Example: You have a page about the Califorinia and landing pages in the site for each town and city.  Could be 300 links?  Does it matter to SEO.  The links are relevant if someone wants to search for the same info in another location.

Too many links on one page is one of the primary reasons for site abandonment, it might be an idea to add some kind of search functionality. For visitors who don’t know the town and city names you can link to a page that has all the towns and cities logically listed by county.

As a general rule (and SEO guideline) index pages normally describe the sites intended use and provide links to main category pages, or the most important or most up to date information.

      Thanks - that makes sense.

100 links on a page is a pretty good rule of thumb.

More than that and usability for visitors will start to suffer - and search engines might stop following them after the first hundred or so.

It's not a hard and fast rule - I have pages with more than 100 links where it makes sense for site navigation - but it's pretty rare.

Thanks for the advice.  We do have links that are relative.  We have heard through other resources that 100 is the number.

Content only becomes king and visitors only see it once they get to your site.  Its a fine balancing act but you need to consider the needs of search engines along with the needs of the visitor.

Google says limit to 100 on each page, probably good idea to spread them.

I think you should keep links as less as possible and certainly it should be less than 100. One more thing you consider, that is use of frames. Open all your links in the details frame (keep a larger space at right leaving a small margin frame at left for the links. that will save you of providing links to your homepage every time.
