I am ready to write my HubMob hub and got up early because I am a slow typist.Well, the desktop computer will not boot up.Something is wrong and Windows will not start.I keep everything on my desktop because I have 500GB of external drive and store my data and photos there. When I research and find links,I store them in Word 2007.

Is there anyone who has any suggestions about starting Windows again? I am looking for the CD but have no clue where it is right now. Is there something I can do in the meantime? Thanks.

AT what point EXACTLY does the boot process stop.

What is the last screen you see? Do you see any error messages?

      Blue or Black screen?

If you do not have your restore or install disks is your Computer a Dell?

Is all your important data on the external drive?

You got a bug. It will be jacked up, until you do a complete restore. Be careful what you install after that!

    The message begins:
We apologize for any inconvenience but Window did not load successfully. The reason ,as is explained, may be because of change to software or hardware. Then I have options:
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with networking
    Safe Mode with prompts
    Last Good Configuration
    Start Normally

Thus far I have tried Safe Mode, last Good Configuration and Start Normally. I have tried F8- pressing repeatedly.i got another screen, pressed entered for last Good Configuration and got no change. The screen is black.I do not know the brand but I have a AMD Sempron with an XP Windows system.

Recently I installed malwarebytes,Spy Doctor,Defender and PC Tools. However,Defender is downloaded but does not install. The same is true for PC Tool. They reach a certain point then the computer freezes.I was told to unplug the internet from the computer; and I did but that did not change the situation.I was told to change the performance of the computer to 600-800; and I did.

Some of my data is on my external drive; but they are mostly photos. When I am writing a hub I put my information and research links/ideas in Word 2007. This method is easier as it limits the files I have to search. Sometimes I Bookmark[Netscape/AOL].

    I hope this information helps.

Does the final boot screen, regardless of what configuration...flash any text before shutting down?

usually you have to read real quick!

If you have a DELL...than you have a built in system restore partition that can be reached via

Does this info match your screen, if so you can follow these directions

    http://support.euro.dell.com/support/to … ABE3B3FE19

But, its tricky to explain how to do this AND retain your data...the worth of your data may force you to pay a professional as a FULL system restore will wipe data (you do not have to do, a full restore)

Thanks for your help,Sunforged. I did not notice any flashing screen but I will look for it when I turn it on again. The computer at my workplace is a Dell and it is going through the same phase as the desktop at home. i will get a colleague to use the information in the link to try to start the one at work.Once started I will use a pen drive/flash drive.

Now I know the importance of keeping an online journal. It seems as if any time I am ready to do something important/beneficial,I find that I meet hurdles and barriers. That is the reality of life. Thanks again.

Ive been plagued with system crashes at the worst of times.

i now use dropbox.com (free backup) for quick backups of whatever im working on and regularly make backups to my external hdd of everything irreplaceable

Pictures i make sure I have multiple backups via sites like Picasa and Flikr

Google Documents works well for, well, documents

and on the fly, i use my gmail account, compose a mail, attach your document...save as draft

I arrived at work yesterday and a colleague greeted me with the news that she is giving me her desktop to ue and she will use her laptop. That was great news. However, when I tried to access the internet,I could not get online.Another colleague said that there are no drivers to get online.he said something about a card that is needed or being able to download drivers. The computer is a Dell.Is there a site I can go to directly to obtain what is needed for internet access?

Finding an ddownloading drivers individually is a hard thing to type out a how-to for

Usually your problem would be missing the "net adapter" driver, but i am surprised that the default doesnt work for you.

in control panel-> head to device manager and you can see a list of hardware and necessary drivers

I would recruit in person help for this one, its not a hard problem to solve for the average pc savvy person

Thanks for your help.Yesterday I got caught in the middle of strife.I got a colleague to help; but the person who gave me her computer called him a Midas touch person. They had a disagreement. She told him that as a member of administration she did not want him to touch the computer. He worked on my computer but told me it has about 600 mb of memory and is headed for a crash. He had a recovery CD but there was not enough memory. At one point I wondered if using my external drive would have helped with the memory; but I changed my mind I need a professional. Most likely I need a professional and a new computer! My chief concern is my data- documents in Word and Publisher. But, that will sort itself out too- with time. There was a blue screen with writing[my computer] but it flashed quickly.

The drivers issue is pretty simple when it comes to a dell just find out the make and model, Exp. Dell Optiplex GX280 and then you can goto dell support website and look for drivers and downloads then you can search for the drivers by the make of your computer. for more info on drivers for dell computers check out my hub I'll post instructions better their.

Hey I would advise running a free scan to check your hardrive for any abnormalities that might be causing your probs. Reimage.com is the best I've found so far.

I had the same problem and my laptop couldn't boot. But luckily there is a method which can be used to restore without losing any data or system configuration. You have to keep F10 key pressed until you hear 2 beeps through the speakers. If it didn't work then keep F1, F2 along with F10 or any other combination pressed until you hear atleast 2 beeps. This worked for me and laptop booted successfully.
