Mexico had a problem in the 1820's and 30's....Anglos from the U.S. kept illegally entering their country....

"A circular dated 19 November 1825 from the Government of Mexico ordered each Mexican state and territory to make a monthly report of the number and movements of foreigners. The report was to be made to the Secretaria de Relaciones Interiores y Exteriores in Mexico City. All foreigners entering Mexico at Santa Fe were required to register and obtain passports at the Custom House.

Most of these foreigners were immigrant traders who traveled in caravans on the road from St. Louis, Missouri to Santa Fe, the frontier of Mexico. Although required to report at the Custom House in order to continue their journey through the Mexican states, not all went smoothly. A report dated 8 July 1827 by a customs official to his superiors outlined the troubles he was having with the great influx of travelers, many of whom were slipping through without registering. His frustration is evident in his statement, "84 foreigners arrived from North America in this Territory on the 8th of this month, but only 36 appear in this release . . . The mayors of the frontiers of Del Bado and Taos . . . are afraid to disobey the foreigners and [claim] they do not have the power to make them register . . . Of the foreigners that have arrived in the territory, many are staying and some are marrying without citizen papers, and . . . many of the worse ones already know our language. Some have no business and have no way to make a living . . . these are the ones that are introducing contraband and are inducing our people to commit [groserias] rudeness and bad language. I wish to talk to [the Supreme Governor] concerning these foreigners, whether I should leave them alone or ask them to return to their country." (http://www.nmgs.org/artpass.htm)

Ongoing illegal immigration, sponsored by American politicians, religious leaders, and economic interests (compounded by traitorous acts resulting in Texas "independence) ensured that Mexico, the nation who stood up to American slavery by abolishing slavery and enabling runaway slaves to gain liberation, was weakened to its core.....

I speak my piece...I debate my side....but ultimately it is not I who can alter anyone's perspective.....

The proof is in the history that isn't taught until someone has to pay tuition at a university...when most are so ingrained in false ideations that it is hard for them to take in and understand in an unbiased way what all has transpired..and continues to do so...

Sab, Mikel, you can point to "no need to help Mexico", but all this means is that you are enabling transnational corporations to use Mexico as a platform to undermine yourselves...

I am watching as the lifeblood of my region, let alone city...and a key piece of the American economy is being diverted south of the border....our logistics industry....

it is the lack of regulation in Mexico that makes their driver's cheaper...and they will be bringing more and more goods into this country...taking away more jobs... But they aren't taking anything...it is the same trucking industry/corporate regimes who win....they don't care either way....Mexican, Salvadorian....and American will be listed as equally disposable..just wait...

So, pat yourselves on the back, and congratulate yourselves on a job well done.....there is nothing like defending your own foe....

I didn't say "no need," I said nothing else will work but Mexico fixing Mexico.

Mexico cannot fix itself if it is not independent....the same boat that the United States is in.....

Again....if corporations are deliberately using Mexico as a place to undermine American labor.....then what fixing are you waiting for???

Money will continue to keep regimes in power that keep most Mexicans disenfranchised....

Do you remember the massacre of university students in Mexico prior to the Olympic Games there??

Not much different, in my view, from atrocities like those that occurred at Kent State.....

But who pays attention these days.....not Sab, it seems...

No one but you pays attention, right?

So long as Mexico sees itself as a poor helpless victim (and certainly not all Mexicans do) it is all but certain that nothing will change for them. Hoping everyone will just go away or waiting for the White Knight of a glorious global socialist revolution to ride up and slay the dragon is not a viable strategy.

The rest is all just another iteration of anti-capitalist, anti-globalization windmill-tilting.

People bemoan trade, globalization, and capitalism but stomping one's feet and burning a few cars at international conferences also won't change a thing. Mexico needs to compete better, be less corrupt, and not pretend the world is going to start spinning in the opposite direction just because life is really, really unfair.

The Maersk family is looking forward to what Mexico will provide for them.....and they can care less about you....

I had a conversation with a fellow UCLA grad who was, at the time, the V.P. of Rail Operations for Maersk at Pier 400 down in San Pedro...(check out that place if you can)....

With a broad smile he talked about bringing in Mexican drivers...and about how he looked forward, personally, to transfering out of the United States....he might be an American...he might be a Bruin....but he is not friend of this nation...

He, also, didn't think much about building up support for labor rights in Mexico......nor about America's responsibility towards the Mexican nation or its citizens.....he was very focused on broadcasting the Maersk family plan for global expansion, though....(check them out...they are quite diversified)..

In my mind...one is either working for Maersk (directly or not)...or against them....

    I know where I stand.

Maersk has no obligation to care about me, that's not how it works.

And again, it is not America that has a responsibility towards the Mexican nation, it is Mexico.

I'm not talking of triviality Sab....I'll leave that to you...and your broad generalizations....

    I'm talking about Tlateloco...Kent State...these are the same...and neither were anti-globalization rallies.....

Sad.......write away...and still say nothing real...

I didn't say they were. You brought them up, not me.
