Day 7: Slowing down

Since I have many interests and no particular area of expertise, I have been writing Hubs about a wide variety of topics. Travel, recipes, Scrabble.

Even though this may sound silly, I almost have too many ideas floating around in my head, which is slowing down my production because I can't get a focus.

I am producing one Hub a day, which is all I can do during the week pretty much since I have a full-time job. This weekend I might try to step it up to make sure I don't get behind when I get busy.

Should I try and narrow it down to one or two topic areas or keep writing whatever pops up in my head?

I would suggest that you jot down a little bit about each thought you run through your mind about writing about.

Establish your URL - begin a paragraph or two, to cement the idea. If you don't draw more focus, just by doing this. Then save it and come back to it. If you get distracted because while typing this hub, another thought, non-related comes to your mind, then save unpublished.

If the idea you have that you're working on isn't related to the idea, it doesn't you no good to try and make a connection, for which, would require much deeper thought. smile

I would say go with what makes you the most comfortable. When you're comfortable and relaxed, then you can bring creativity to the fore-front, because your imagination cannot be forced. smile

I've participated in something like 6 or so HubChallenges and the ones that I seemed to enjoy the most are the ones where I sat and brainstormed topics, created the URL, title and opening paragraph and moved on.  I enjoyed having 10-15 topics going at a time.  Like you, I work fulltime so it was nice to come home and work on whichever one caught my interest.   I might work on 3-4 different ones in a night and finish none of them.  Then suddenly I might finish all four.

Do whatever keeps it fun and exciting for you.  There is no right or wrong way to go about it.

I have to write down my ideas to keep track of all of them. I actually keep a little notebook handy so I can make notes at anytime. I get ideas from everywhere! Like you, they can become overwhelming!

Of course, in my case, it could be old age...lol!

All of the above are really good ideas. You just have to do what works best for you. I have a lot of different interests too and topics are constantly popping into my head. Some times I write them down, sometime I write the first paragraph, maybe a title or start many at one time. Or just make notes or jot down words or images to use in a poem.

I have a lot of drafts going at one time too. I can go back whenever I feel like it and finish whenever I need an article or whenever I feel like writing, which is pretty much all of the time.

I really like the idea of opening the URL and working on the beginning for a wide variety of hubs and then going back when the creativity strikes!

Thanks for the encouragement and ideas - I'll be plugging along for the next few weeks to finish the challenge, but I have already seen the wonderful benefits of it in only a week!
