I enjoyed it. There were some very good musical moments and I was glad they concentrated so much on the First Nations.
The Georgian athletes marching in and the one minute silence for the luger who was killed were very touching moments.
And the whales were very cool
It was fantastic - congratulations to the Canadians.
As UW said, they handled the tragedy very respectfully - you could see how crushed the poor Georgian team were.
I loved the whales, too, and the big polar bear.
As always, the lighting the flame was the best bit - every taverna in Greece falls silent for that.
Again, well done to Canada
I couldn't stay awake to watch the whole thing but my husband recorded it for me to watch the rest of tonight.
I was proud that they represented the First Nations too. It was beautiful the first part that I watched.
I had very much sympathy when I saw the Georgian team too. How very tragic. They were brave to face the crowd in such sorrow last night.
I enjoyed the cultural show so much it made me wish to visit canada. I've only been there twice, once when I was 3 and another when we visited niagra.
the special effects were gorgeous, loved the quebec portion with the wind and the aerial performer. the whales were fantastic.
the marching in is one of my favorite parts. I love the athletes excitement and pride to represent their country... even though so many have devoted their lives to reaching the olympic level.
the moment of silence was felt I am sure throughout the world.
I'm sure it will continue to be felt throughout the games.
I'm looking forward to watching it this year. well done, canada.
I wrote a Hub about it. I am very impressed with the nonprofit corporation started by the First Nations to organize much of the Opening and two weeks of activites...and the Paralymics Games. They are really recognized as partners in this year's events. It's encouraging and its fun. Also uplifting after tragedy already struck.
Gotta check out you're hub.. you're always so quick.
Makes one proud to be Canadian. I thought it was really well done too. The light shows was fantastic. The first nations segment was fabulous which I was really glad that they were so involved. The entertainment was great. I just loved the violins and step dancing. How awesome that Terry Fox's Mom was one of the Olympic flag carriers, Rick Hanson a torch carrier etc.
It really was a great celebration even with the cloud of
the tragic death of the Georgian athlete. It's just too sad. I really feel bad for the rest of the team.
It was wonderful, long but amazing. The highlight for me was K.D Lang singing "Hallelujah". She has such a beautiful voice.
It was well done indeed, I enjoyed watching it from opeing to the last part of it,
I loved it. I usually do enjoy anything about Canada, as I have warm memories of the Canadians I have met here and in Canada.
I found it to be exciting, respectful of it's people and the tragic loss of that young man from Georgia.
I think that's the first time I have ever seen North America give so much deserved attention to the –indigenous people as they called them-(Native Americans)!! Kudos to Canada for that brilliant, lovely and overdue gesture!
My favorite part was the song ‘We Are the World-25 for Haiti!’ Loved it. Simply put it was B-E-A-U-tiful!!!!
And in case any of you are wondering; I am cheering and chanting U-S-A!!!!
I also will be cheering for that first time lone Pakistani winter Olympian and all the Germans....but whoever wins, they deserve it.... Better them freezing their backside off than me! LOL
ENJOY!!!!

Goldentoad has to be one of the finest writers I know on Hubpages. After another flagging of his latest Hub, he has decided to leave, tonight. I am very saddened, to see him go. He delighted us with his hubs, had a huge army of fans, supported other hubbers with his comments, added so much spark to...
