Does anyone else hate those makeover shows?

   I hate the shows were someone gets a makeover.
   
   They usually take some average women dressed like she is doing yard work, with no make-up on. Cut, and color her hair, slap hooker make-up on her, and dress her like she is going out to eat at an expensive restaurant. I fricking hate that!
   
   You want to impress people with out all the BS, put the women back into the same outfit she was wearing before you did your stupid make-over. Or just once, take her out of the fancy outfit, and slap her in some farmer jeans and a tank top.
   
   I hate it even more when the make-over a man. They usually pick some guy who looks like a long haired country hick with a scraggly beard, give him a decent haircut, and shave his facial hair, and, usually highlight his hair, and trim the unibrow. then stick him in a suit and tie, or something that he will more than likely not ever wear again.
   
   I often think, if they asked me to do it, I would say. yeah, you can cut my hair, color it, and dress me nice. but, don't even think about touching my facial hair. I will take you down!
   
   I have seen some women who looked better before they were made over, and some who just looked like street whores when they were handed over to these hollywood hacks.
   
   Does anyone agree?

   Personally, I think there's too many reality shows period! And they're all so repetitious from American Idol and all the reality show clones it inspired, from Survivor and the reality show clones it inspired, from The Bachelor and all the shows it inspired, the makeover shows, the weight loss shows, the washed-up (or soon-to-be-washed-up) celebrity dance shows, etc, etc. It seems like they all exist to create a batch of 15 minute fame seekers who tries desperately to parlay those 15 minutes into lifelong careers (Know-it-all republican, Obama basher and View co-host Elisabeth Hassleback and the supposedly reformed reality show villainess Omarosa). Reality shows take up about 2/3's of primetime TV. I miss the 70's and 80's when there were more sitcoms and dramas on weekday evenings. I was wondering when the reality TV show craze will ever die out, but unfortunately it looks like they'll be around (to say that least) for a long, long time. Waaaaaah!!!

   Yes, I hate makeover shows. I hate how they take a beautiful, wonderful, and unique individual and change them into the exact same person they changed the last person in to.
   
   In fact, the ONLY makeover show I enjoy watching is "Extreme HOME Makeover." To me, that is the only makeover show that is worth its salt. Those people really deserve new homes.

      You hit the nail right on the head. I saw one show, where they took these 3 ladies who had beautiful long hair, and gave each of them a Hiliary Clinton doo, and almost identical outfits. very sad.
      
      It's like they are attempting to turn america into a shop and whore our products culture. Which it seems why everyone gets so upset when someone like Lady Gaga or Adam Lambert comes along to give them all the middle finger.
      
      Just walk into into popular clothing store and try to find mens jeans that don't look like they have been worn by a rap star for under 40 bucks.
      One reason why I but most of my clothes at Goodwill.

   I hate certain ones. I really really hate the ones that involve plastic surgery and the like. (So pretty much all extreme beauty shows are ridiculous)
   Like on Extreme Makeover show they hand out surgeries like candy. They'll do 12 surgeries all in one day, yuck.
   I'm sure those people have problems later on down the line...

      I can't help wondering whether the TV companies who put out these shows aren't getting some sort of kickback from plastic surgeons. 
      
      There was a programme on British TV called Ten Years Younger a while back, which was the same as your Extreme Makeover when it came to dishing out the surgery.  They would take their victim and parade her in a public place, asking random people how old they thought she was.   Then they'd do the makeover, and do the same age-guessing poll again.  All accompanied by a smarmy voice-over.  I watched the show a couple of times but found it made me squirm, so I desisted.

   I dislike them too. Yes, some of the people they showcase are 'extreme' cases but most are average folks who perhaps have more priorities than 'looking good.'
   
   I'm not saying having pride in yourself, inside and out, is bad, but I feel these shows are promoting a certain look and generic ideal instead of individuality.
   
   It just promotes superficiality like the media always does, giving people body image issues when they don't fit such high standards of beauty and put little emphasis on the actual person.
