WOW I am suffering from a major sleep problem, every night I go to sleep around 11:30pm only to wake up at 3am and not be able to fall back asleep for the rest of the evening? Does anyone else have this problem? It really sucks!

Stop thinking. Lot of times thinking about something/someone distracts sleep.

I have gone literally days without sleeping. Maybe you can see a doctor? I do know worrying about it makes it worse. I have a friend who swears melatonin is the best thing. And natural. Sorry your going thru it, it stinks. sad

Yes I have the exact problem. I haven't solved it exactly but I don't waste time tossing and turning. I am productive from midnight - 5. I then sleep from 5 am - 9 am until I go to class! I also am loaded on black coffee every day!!

It's in the vitamin section, melatonine.

I have heard good things about that vitamin, I'm going to consider getting it. Thanks for the suggestion and link.

It is due to winter, something about light and dark messing with glandular production of seratonin. taking melatonin fixes the problem, getting the glands working again. I have to get some and get back on track.

yeap its a real bummer eh - oh to be a baby again, they reckon I could sleep through anything - even having one of dad's working dogs hopping into my cot to extract a brown snake - wouldn't catch me sleeping through that now.

For many months after my husband and I moved into the city He was having the same problem. I remember him waking me up one time, he was so frustrated about being awake that he wanted to share it with me. LOL. as soon as I was awake I knew immedatly what his trouble was.
There is a 3am train that runs through our city about 8 blocks or so from our house since he is hard of hearing he could not hear it but he was feeling the rumble and it would wake him. Once he knew what was causing the rumble he was fine with it and it has never been a problem for him since.

There's a disorder called Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder.  I wrote a Hub on it.  A fellow Hubber told me about it.

Some people just don't sleep a lot, and others don't get back to sleep when wakened.
Years ago when I was on the night shift, my fellow workers warned me not to phone them after their shifts before 2pm as they would not be able to get back to sleep. Yet I can take early morning calls from whoever and then roll back over and go to sleep again.

It's just the way we are made. Most sleeping pills or alternatives will help you get to sleep but I know of none that will put you back to sleep after wakening early, if that is how you are anyway.

I am having sleep problems at the moment - I think mostly it is lack of routine and lack of excercise. I normally wake up 6 hours after going to sleep whenever - at the moment I am sleeping hours on end or not at all. I am starting to impose a regular routine and going to find some exercise each afternoon.
