Flagged a hub for duplicate content

   Although I read the New York Times most every morning, Real Life has kept me from visiting HP for several weeks.  This morning, however, I dropped in see what hubbers have to say about Sarah Palin.  For no particular reason I clicked on flyxingping's "Palin and McCain's Shotgun Marriage".  If I hadn't been away so long, the sense of deja vu on reading the opening paragraph might've been chalked up to Blonde Senior Moment. That I'd visited at some point in the past week and simply forgot.  Same for the rest of the hub.  But I hadn't, so why did it all seem soooo familiar? 
   
   Googling "shotgun marriage" returned a link to Frank Rich's column of 6 Sept in the NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/07/opinion/07rich.html, the title of which is "Palin and McCain's Shotgun Marriage".  Aha!
   
   Frank's opening paragraph:
   "SARAH PALIN makes John McCain look even older than he is. And he seemed more than willing to play that part on Thursday night. By the time he slogged through his nearly 50-minute acceptance speech -- longer even than Barack Obama's -- you half-expected some brazen younger Republican (Mitt Romney, perhaps?) to dash onstage to give him a gold watch and the bum's rush."
   
   flyxingping's opening paragraph:
   "SARAH PALIN makes John McCain look even older than he is. And he seemed more than willing to play that part on Thursday night. By the time he slogged through his nearly 50-minute acceptance speech - longer even than Barack Obama's - you half-expected some brazen younger Republican (Mitt Romney, perhaps?) to dash onstage to give him a gold watch and the bum's rush."
   
   I kid you not.  She/he lifted the entire paragraph and pasted it into a text capsule as original content.  Didn't change a thing.  How arrogant and brazen is that?
   
   As I said, the sense of deja vu continued to the end of the hub, but I didn't google any more key phrases to determine whose work those paragraphs were lifted from.  It's enough that the title and opener were blatantly plajerized, as if those of us who aren't here for flyxingping's sex hubs can't read newspapers and therefore wouldn't notice.   
   
   At any rate, I flagged the hub for "duplicate content" (such a genteel phrase for stealing another's work), and also notified the HP Team that it should be removed before Frank Rich or the Times' legal beagles find it.

   I don't even think about that as duplicate content. I could write the same article and post it in multiple places online and be accused of duplicate content. What that person did is out and out plagiarism, and I believe they should be banned.
   
   It's one thing to look at other publications to see what is being reported - professional journalists do it all the time. But at the end of the day, professionals find their own angle and run with it, to maintain journalistic integrity.

   I agree Crash-it's plagiarism.  I know I'd be really upset if someone copied and pasted one of my articles onto their own site and called it their own.  I work really hard to write my stuff.  Nobody else should get the credit!

   I just searched for flyxingping's profile and it seems to be gone--another spammer banned <tee hee> That was quick work. Good job Hubteam:-) and kudos to you too JamaGenee for sniffing him/her out.

   My understanding is that unless the author files DMCA complaint, the hub will stay. If you really want to do something about it, contact the original author.
