   Google Top Brass Found Guilty In Italy
   
   Three top brass Google Executives have been found guilty by a Milan Court, for allowing the transmission of a video that showed a youth with Down’s syndrome being bullied (irishtimes.com).

      Thats disgusting, They deserve to be found guilty, I hate anything to do with bullying be it racial, colour, disability, and or gender, people like that are sick and perverted, hope they get life.

      like maddie said, there's more to the story than the headlines.
      it is subject to appeal.
      
      the prime minister of Italy owns most of the private media and indirectly controls much public media, looks like an attempt to regulate the internet more aggressively than the rest of europe.

   It doesn't make sense to charge Google.  They provided a publishing platform (YouTube) and some user uploaded the content.  Google removed it within 24 hours of a complaint.  They cannot be held responsible for the content, as they probably did not know it existed.  There are way too many videos on YouTube to view them all individually.  The user who uploaded the content should be the one held responsible.

   They need to be more strict with allowing uploaded content, they should have a restriction filter or something that deletes anything like that instantly and sends warnings to the user.
   How any one can find bullying amusing though is beyond belief, why would some one do that, most suicides these days are through bullying related incidents, its always on the news and the user who uploaded it has just placed a vulnerable person at risk, the user should be jailed.

      How do you propose they do that?  There's no way to tell what's in a video without actually viewing it.

         Maybe they can do it by checking the videos before they are displayed online. Like we can do here on HP with the comments posted on our hubs.
         
         BTW, as of my information, certain softwares have been developed which can identify porn videos, maybe YouTube will like to enhance such softwares if they can't moderate their videos because there is no point in allowing unlawful videos.

            Checking every video before it was displayed is not like every individual user moderating their own comments.  Each hubber has a limited number of hubs and gets a limited number of comments.  It would be more like myself, Norah, and Mausmi (the mod team) reading every single hub before it was published.  It's impossible.

      Yes, they need a bullying parameter coded into their algorithm to immediately raise a flag as soon as it's uploaded.

   Blaming Google for missing ONE video out of thousands, possibly millions, that are uploaded every day is completely senseless.
   
   They SHOULD be prosecuting the person who uploaded the video, the people who were doing the bullying in the video, any bystanders in the video who didn't do anything about the bullying, and anyone who watched the video without reporting the content.
   
   Like Maddie said, there is no possible way for videos like this to be automatically deleted. There's no way to know what's in a video without actually watching it. YouTube should ban whomever uploaded this video to their website. Ban the IP address from ever making an account there again.

   The Italians get food and gold jewelry right and that's about it. They haven't had a well-run government in years. Google is the least of their worries.

    Interestingly many here are thinking like myself, surely it is the people who actually videoed the bullying and uplaoded it that are the real bad people here, thanks for all the comments, thats why I posted this thread I wanted to see what people thought, Itally has the strictest censorship laws of the internet in Europe, I have no problems with rules but this conviction is a bridge too far for me, no, the bullying should not have been happening, no it should not have been videoed, no it should not have been up loaded, but go after the bullys not those who provide an opportunity for millions of people to share and communicate each day......

    I am with Irish on this one, why not take advantage of the fact that these kids have been stupid enough to post the video online and use it as evidence against them.

    They went after google instead of the actual guilty party because google has deep pockets. I am sure there will be a huge fine which the real guilty party could never pay.
