I have been around on hub pages a long time, i know i am a slow learner, but i feel i have come far....
I would now like to try my hand at trying to make a little money. It has never been important to me before, but i feel ready for it now.
Crafts is my big thing, so if i write articles about crafts, and interviews etc, how do i link it to people who would be interested. These articles will take a long time, and i am working as well, i think you know what i am saying...
i will need easy to follow guidelines sorry, i have read lots of hubs and bookmarked them.... but decided to ask the audience as well
thanks a lot
You can start by trying the suggestions posted, and also using the search to find forums and hubs on the subject.
One thing to keep in mind, you are not trying "link it to people who would be interested". You are trying to make it available and accessible to people who are actually searching. There is a subtle difference. That's where your keywords come into play.
Try to put yourself in the place of a person who was trying to learn about the craft you are writing about. What terms would you search for to find information? Make sure you use those words.
You might also look up some craft supplier sites and see if they might post your links.
I'm not the one to ask on hub traffic... still have a lot of learning to do myself. And, like you, I have a full time job (and 2 little kids) so I write for me, when I can, and let the adsense chips fall where they may.
But, I did want to recommend Etsy to you. Its a really cool artists/craftsperson site where you can sell your wares, or look for people searching for certain items and offer them a bid. I thought that maybe if the site worked out for you, you could do a how-to hub on using Etsy, with links to your finished products (as well as others, since you wouldn't want to get flagged for self-promoting.) But, I know if I'm setting up a site or project, I love to see a finished example of someone else's work as I tend to learn visually.
(I haven't used Etsy personally, but I have some friends who do crafts and make jewelry that have had good luck w/ it. I've also browsed it from a buyer standpoint and think its a really good forum... sort of an online version of the old folding-table-in-the-high-school-gym design show.
What has worked for me in the past.
1. Assess your topic and find appropriate keywords. Plug them into:
https://adwords.google.it/select/KeywordToolExternal
Look for popular keywords with little competition and use those are tags in your hub.
2. Write well and in depth.
3. Take your profile's RSS and submit it a free submission engine such as http://pingomatic.com (there are many, use them all)
4. Write related articles on free article directories (such ezinearticles.com) and create relevant links which pour traffic back to your hubs.
5. Make free blogs that direct targeted traffic to your hubs andd/or profile.
6. Create relevant links with other article directories such as infobarrel and squidoo. Link yoru articles together.
7. Do not duplicate content.
These are 7 easily achieveable steps which should boost your traffic in the long run. Of course there are many more. But these are the easiest.
Hope you found it helpful, thoog.
Great suggestions! I've read through a lot of the hubs directed at beginners, and SEO research and stuff... but a lot of it is "Greek to me." What great simple steps!
(Sorry to piggyback PoetL, but I caught this reply while I was still here, and I think I might try some of it out!)
thooghun thanks so much, yes a step by step guide such as this is exactly what i was looking for...... thanks so much, i have printed it out....... will take a look at your hubs now.
No problem guys, i'm not an SEO guru, but those steps have definitely helped my traffic over time.
Your google link is actually to the Italian site... Do you happen to know what the link is to the US version? The only words I know in Italian are the names of my favorite foods
On second thought, I'm sure I could find this myself too...
Thanks again.
oh my word i cannot believe you did this..... i am an idiot when it comes to computers, so an idiots guide still looks difficult but i will work it out.
I cannot believe you wrote a hub for me and other people who find it difficult, not being technical, you understand.
THANKYOU SO MUCH
Hi Brenda, Try to find all the synonyms of the word "craft" and try to use it also in your Hub title and URL. Your targeted keywords need to be present both in URL and in Title. Once you choose your url, it is not possible to change it but you can always change the title. Recently, I have modified my Hub titles and almost tripled my total hub traffic.
Brenda, so far you've published a lot of hubs that are very similar to blog posts. Random thoughts and ideas put into words.
It's very hit and miss for a person to end up on a webpages with that sort of content by doing a search.
Crafts will be a good avenue. I'd give the interviews a miss.
What sort of crafts. Will it be a How To or DIY type of hub?
What are you currently working on or are thinking of working on? Please share the title of three of your proposed hubs. Myself and others can then give more specific advice.

Just curious if anyone is using article directories like ezine, xomba and buzzle to drive traffic to your hubs. From what I understand about pageranks, if I write an article for ezine, even though ezine has a high pagerank, my article on ezine will have it's own pagerank...which will be low...

I've been on here for a few years, and I guess I never really understood the point of these scores. They don't seem to provide any real value to the user and I can't convince myself that they add value because they fluctuate so much. What's the point? Am I supposed to use these scores to tell me...
