Question about traffic ratio

   I am curious to know if my traffic ratio is good or if it should be better as far as traffic from outside sources. When I checked this morning, I had a total of 16,110 page views. Of these views, about 68% is from outside HP. I am wondering if this is a fair ratio or if it shoud be higher than 68% to equal  good ratio.
   
   Since I don't have ads, it isn't something that is a major concern for me but I am really curious. I also don't promote very much on other sites and social networks. I am very curious as to what would be a good ratio of outside visitors compared to visits from other hubbers. I was almost excited about this until I started wondering if it was as good as it looked to me lol.

   My outside traffic represents about 72%.
   
   From what you said I believe you have a good ratio (at least until the BIG hubbers share their ratios with us ).

   Bonnie, good for what? For making money it is bad, for hanging out with online friends it is excellent

   Misha, I may not use the ads as many other hubbers do, but I do have a business and any online presence is good for my business. I use many of my business articles to help people learn how to look for home businesses, how to research companies and things of that nature. So, while I may not make money from any ads on google and such, I am growing my business through my presence here as well as many other networking and article sites. If I simply wanted to hang out with online friends, I can always go to game rooms, chat rooms or MySpace. Or I could even spend more time in the forums here with my friends. My traffic is good for me personally as well as my business even though I don't spam the site with it, anyone can acces the information through my profile here.

   LOL You know all well what you need - I don't really understand why you asked the question, sorry. I don't think there is any yardstick to measure your ratio against, cause everybody here has a unique mix of goals. Your traffic fits your goals - excellent, so what's the point?
   
   Oh, and I wouldn't count on Myspace to substitute HP as a hang-out site, not even close for me

      LOL we can certainly agree that HP is far superior to MySpace! I was simply listing alternatives that I had for just "hanging out". My question was asked because I wanted some opinions from other hubbers as to their ratio and if this may be considered as a descent percentage of outside traffic for the views I have had. There are many other hubbers who also look at the percentage of outside views versus the views of HP members and I thought I would get their opinion on it. I didn't see it as a useless question. It was something that I simply wanted to get other opinions on and I thought that was what the forum was for.

   Since my hubs are oriented for making money, most of my traffic is from search engines, in fact internal HP traffic is about 3%, so external traffic is 97%. But again, I am not using hubs to intentionally channel traffic to my other sites, so it is different from your model.

      That is pretty amazing. How long did it take you to establish such a loving relationship with Google and Yahoo? Did chocolates work better or flowers?

         Correction - not 0.3% but 3%, sorry,  miscalculated. It does not significantly change the picture, though.
         
         How long? The duration of stay Not sure about chocolates, but keyword research and backlinks work for me pretty good.

   Bonnie, if you're trying to promote a business then you do want outside traffic.  I found my external traffic has grown gradually over time.   These days, 90% of my traffic comes from search engines.

   Marissa and Misha, thanks so much for the numbers and they are both amazing! I suppose if I do more promoting on other sites would probably raise my outside visitors. Right now, I just have links to it on my Yahoo Answers profile page and a couple of other sites. Maybe I'll add it to my bio section of the articles I publish elsewhere.     Im about 20% hubpages, 80% everyone else - but I am getting screwed by my sexy Nicole pics hub - which is giving me big traffic and ALL from hubpages: hubbers love pics !

    It may appear that all those people are internal, but it's not always the case. If an internal page like "Hot Hubs" or a tag page shows up in a Google search, then people click it, and from there they click into your Hub, they show on the HubPages stats as "internal traffic", but of course they are really external search traffic.
    
    Analytics will tell you the real story, because it tracks back to where and how people entered HubPages in the first place.

       This is interesting, Jenny! Especially since I know that a lot of my visitors come from clicking the hub link on google search. I don't know anything about the analytics, though. Can you explain how to check that, please? I have seen this posted about but never quite understood how it worked or how to check stats there.
