Just wondering how to make sure no ads with adult content show up on a page oriented towards families. Have a hub about the Saturday morning cartoon "Horseland" and how my baby sister, Mishy, plays the voice of Angora the Cat.
Checked in to see how I could improve the page and to my stunned dismay, the Adsene ad at top looked beautiful, but advertised adult publishing.
Eeeeeekkkkkkk!
So I turned off the ads completely because I believe kids surfing the net in search of their fave cartoon character shouldn't have to learn that side of life from me :-(
Helllllllpppppp!
Thanks and Best Wishes,
Cory
Since Hub pages does not allow adult content, I'm really quite curious as to what sort of ad you saw on your Hub. Care to elaborate?
Added: having just looked at the Hub, I have a very good idea what tags might have brought up something adult-ish but I'd like you to describe what you saw before I offer further feedback just to be sure.
Dear Relache,
Thank you so much for responding and also for visiting!
The ad was a changing banner. Very attractive graphics. Nothing unseemly. (At first, I actually thought they were cartoon related!) Just a small line of type that said something like "Adult publishing".
I would very much appreciate knowing the key words in question!!!
Thanks again!
Best Wishes,
Cory
I used to work for a company that sold the books put out by the exact type of company you saw advertised. I believe the words causing the problem are "omaha" and "the cat" especially when used in a stand-alone fashion. There is a very well-known and popular comic book/graphic novel that will turn 20 years old next year titled "Omaha the Cat Dancer." It's got anthropomorphic/furry characters and mature themes. (those of you who are curious can search out further details for yourselves)
I think you need to use more key phrases and not use those words by themselves. For example, "the cat" actually isn't specific to your topic, but "angora the cat" is. "Omaha" might be any "Omaha" but having "Omaha Nebraska" lowers the chances of any other variation. I'm not sure if "cartoon" alone could trigger a strong enough match to draw that sort of ad (as comics also used to be called cartoons), but "animated tv show" or "kids cartoon" would be safer.
Although Google and HubPages eschew things that are considered hardcore pornography, both still have a lot of material that is not appropriate for children.
Dear Relache:
This is great, valuable information!!!!
Thank you so much!!!!
Best Wishes,
Cory
Glad I could be of help, Cory! That's not the sort of thing that someone would guess out of the blue.
Let me know if changing the tags works for you.

I would like to know what they consider adult content. I do not have a hub with adult content on it. For those of you who have read my hubs, did you notice anything to be considered adult oriented? As in claims of nudity? I had a couple cartoons on my camping hub, but that stuff can be seen on any...

For the second time my poetry challenges have been flagged for content violations. I do not know why people are offended by something i tried to create to help fellow poets on HubPages, but HubPages has made it clear that my challenges are not appreciated. I will be posting my future...
