"CALLER: If the health care bill passes, where would you go for health care yourself? And the second part of that is, what would happen to the doctors, do they have to participate in the federal program, or could they opt out of it? [...]"

"LIMBAUGH: My guess in even in Canada and even in the UK, doctors have opted out. And once they’ve opted, they can’t see anybody Medicare, Medicaid, or what will become the exchanges. They have to have a clientele of private patients that will pay them a retainer and it’ll be a very small practice. I don’t know if that’s been outlawed in the Senate bill. I don’t know. I’ll just tell you this, if this passes and it’s five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented — I am leaving the country. I’ll go to Costa Rica."

    LOL

Apparently Limbaugh didn't do his research. Costa Rica has a socialized health care system, and a good one, too.

"The Costa Rican healthcare system is rated very highly on an international level, and the country’s citizens enjoy the health and life expectancy equal to that of more developed nations. These accolades come courtesy of strong, universal health insurance and excellent public and private hospitals.

Costa Rica’s public health insurance system, commonly known as the Caja, is available country-wide to all citizens and legal residents. There are ten major public hospitals – four in San Jose, including the Children’s Hospital – affiliated with the Caja. For non-emergencies and everyday medical care, small clinics, known as EBAIS (pronounced ay-vy-ice), are located in almost every community."

    How about both?

Limbaugh - the only joke bigger than him is that some people take him seriously.

Because right-wingers believe him. They believe all sorts of inane things that suit their agenda, including things like The United Nations International Health Organization exists.

So referring to him as the leader of the republican party is not taking him seriously?

The only thing that Rush is the leader of is his EIB.

Not taking what he says as meaning anything, except to the "dittoheads" who most definitely agree with everything he says.

And if he's not the spokesperson for the GOP, who is?

In Costa Rica yes they have a socialized health care system with
    one difference.

Doctors will work in the hospitals in the morning and later in the day they go to their privately owned clinics.

That is right doctors have the ability to own and operate their own clinics outside of the government program.

Rush did not say he would move to Costa Rica he said he would seek his health care there from private clinics and pay out of his pocket.

    From internationalliving.com

The site mentions that Costa Rica does offer private health care as well, stating,

“Many of the country’s highly trained physicians and some dentists work in the mornings for the CCSS [government-run health care system] and operate their own offices and clinics in the afternoons and evenings.”

Nevertheless, he's still taking advantage of doctors trained and operating within a socialized medical system. INS, the primary alternative to CCSS, is also government-run, and although it is possible to have foreign medical insurance, it's unclear to me why you would want to when you could get the same level of care for less money with the CCSS or INS systems. INS is even available to tourists.

He may even be making fun of the likes of Barbara Streisand and Alec Baldwin both of whom threatened to move to Europe if George W Bush was reelected. Bush was reelected and they stayed, so much for their word.

Everybody should have FREE health care.  No one should pay for it.  Doctors should work for free.

And if we can't have it for free then we should all ship in and pay the costs of people who refuse to take care of themselves.  We should pay for the drug abusers, the obese, the smokers.

Health care is an entitlement.  We are all entitled.

And while we are at it we should all have free rent.  Because after all we all have to live somewhere.  And we should all have free cars to drive.

And the Government should decide who gets what kind of house and what kind of car.  And if we don't like it.  Too bad.  They should be able to take from us anything and everything we earn and they should decide who should get what.

That's the vision of Team Obama.

They know what's good for us, and no matter what we think or do they are going to force us to comply or else fine us and throw us in jail.

God Bless America Land of the Slave!

Doctors should not work for free.

If you can afford health care, you should pay for it. If you cannot afford it, assistance will be provided. Is this health-care bill perfect? No.

But it is a lot better than the status quo since tax payers have been and are currently paying for the uninsured, uncompensated health-care.

Actually, Obama is proposing that 30 million Americans be forced into the evil clutches of the insurance companies with no recourse other than to pay the big premiums and be subject to exclusions and holes in their coverage. The insurance companies are licking their chops, according to a recent Goldman Sachs private report to its big customers,  because they will soon be in for a big windfall if a health care reform bill is passed.

      1. livewithrichard profile image73
livewithrichardposted 14 years agoin reply to this

What windfall? There is absolutely no incentive to purchase insurance since you cannot be denied coverage when you enroll.  You never have to enroll until you are injured or seriously ill. The fine you will pay is less than the cost of the policy and it will go to the Govt. Insurance companies will fall because there will be no more private money going into their coffers.

When I first camew to America about 20 years ago,I thought Rush Limbaugh was a Democrat comedian. He sounded like those guys who will take the opponents view to a ridicolous extreme and then, because he's ridiculed it, people will support the other side. I was shocked to find that people took him seriously, that he really was a Republican. In spite of his "Look it up" and "This is socialism" statements. People here take it seriously.
Another phrase that I never heard of until I came here was "Socialized Medicine" as though ensuring the health and well being of every member of the nation had something to do with socialism. I thought that looking after your fellow Americans was patriotism not socialism.
I never understood how any one could take Rush's ideas seriously and after being here all this time I still can't.
