Have you ever had a birthday that went sour?

My best friends father was killed on my 16th by a stray bullet in a drive by. We were told at my party.

It happened a long time ago. I am mostly over it for me but I still hurt very much for her.

Wow, thats really harsh.  Worst thats ever happend to me is my husband asked what I wanted as a gift and I stupidly said I wasn't really bothered.  So he didn't bother buying me a present and I had a face like a smacked bottom for the rest of the day.  But in the light of what you've written Ohma, I can consider myself lucky.

Kathryn as I said it was a long time ago. You never really get over something like that but you do learn to live with it. We ussually celebrate my B-Day by honoring his memory. It is a good way to celebrate both of our lives.

Umm... my worst B-day was back in 1999 when I was trying 2 find a club 2 go 2 on Chicago's near north side (on Chicago Avenue and Halsted 2 B exact, I was a lil' tipsy by the way but what 23 YO isn't on their B-day on their way 2 a club). But the one I found had exceeded the capacity limit for the night and the bouncer wasn't letting anyone else in. I met these 2 girls in line that got turned away too and got in the car with them. After driving around 4 10 minutes we saw a liquor store they asked me 2 get the 3 of us something 2 drink and when I got out and ran over 2 the liquor store but it was closed. I ran back 2 look for the car but the bit***s pulled off with me not really knowing where I was at (I guess this was their way of saying that they weren't interested).

I was determined 2 have some fun that night. After walking around the near north side warehouse district 4 about an hour and a 1/2 trying 2 find a club, I became a lil' lonely and upset and struck up a random conversation with some dude on the street and told him what happened and what I was doing. I was smoking weed at the time and gave him $20 4 a dub bag. It was around 3 or 4am, I knew it was too late 4 the clubs, they were either closed or closing up by at that time so I was gonna just go home (I should've known better, and he knew I was having a bad birthday night and took advantage of it of my situation). I waited outside that Cabrini-Green project building he ran into 4 about 20 minutes. I finally realized that he ganked me outta my money and was probably upstairs smoking my weed, laughing at me with his friends. Sadly and COMPLETELY distraught, I dreaded home and got there around 6:30 that morning.

Two days later I met up with and old buddy of mine and hung with him 4 a few days, which really lifted my spirits. I was upset about that birthday night 4 a long, long time though.

FOR ALL THE FAINT OF HEART HUBBERS: I didn't mean 2 bring up a sore subject when I posted this hub and I know a birthday is suppose 2 the most happiest day of your life, if not one of them. But still it's one of the 364 days of the year and anything can go wrong on your B-day like with any other day. So nowadays on my B-Day I just try 2 make sure I have all I need and just stay at home (I'm 2 old for the club scene now anyway)

HERE'S 2 MANY MORE HAPPY B-DAYS 2 WHOEVER ELSE THAT READS THIS FORUM!

My entire family went to the Mall of America for my 11th birthday. We had fun for about an hour until my father got in a fight with my grandmother over something stupid. She took my cousin to get a corn dog when she "knew" we were all going to eat together, even though no plans had been made to do this. Everyone took sides and we ended up leaving fifteen minutes later. I didn't get to open my gifts and my parents were in a sour mood for the eight hour drive home. This led to having no Christmas with them either... kind of ruined the whole year. *sigh*

    My sixth birthday.

I was the youngest and my brother had a birthday party of his classmates, they were all at our house for a big party. I asked my mom when I could have a birthday party, and she said "when you go to school"

I started school when I was five, day after labor day. My birthday was October 18th, so I invited my whole class. One of their parents called to ask the time, and My mom didn't know what she was talking about, she had planned no party.

Mommy told me I wasn't born until eight o'clock at night and that was bed time for most kids. I went and told the kids we couldn't have the party unless it was eight o'clock, since I wasn't born until then.

Needless to say, some showed up at our door at eight at night and were sent away, saying there was no party. I didn't get any presents, I got in trouble, and I was forever branded as a liar by my class. I was picked on for the rest of my school life, I quit when I was sixteen. I had never lived it down.

jeez, and I was gonna complain about getting a violin case (cheap, cardboard kind) for a birthday present!  but seriously, you guys have had some miserable birthdays!  Early on I learned not to expect much excitement because my birthday was 2 days after Christmas!  and so, birthdays are pretty much just another day for me and nowadays I  celebrate that I am not hung over!
