I hear that self hosted blogs are best and from the URL point of view I can see more SEO power in a well chosen url name for the blog. I personally don't like the word press format and it seems thats the easiest way to blog on your own self hosted blog. I would be interested in hearing about other easy was to self host a blog smile

No web builder me, hubby is but in flash and generally not easy for spiders to position highly with so much hidden in flash code (he doesn't do HTML coding to much).

I have self-hosted blogs and I use the Wordpress.org software.

I didn't find it too hard to get started with - the first thing is to find yourself a free theme which you can use widgets with, then you can do almost everything with plugins, and don't need to know any coding at all.

It depends what you want to do with your blog. I really like orble. I even have a hub about it. Your first three posts go under an orble url, but if your blog is about something that is popular like health, electronics, etc then they will give you your own domain name.

With them you can link to affiliate sites, but you can't write in your own code. So like I said it depends on what you're looking for in a blog site.

Just reading Orble's terms and conditions.  It sounds a bit like Today.com, where they own your content and if you don't keep posting regularly, they can take your blog away and give it to someone else.

@Fluffymetal, if you've no intentions to use ads on blog then tumblr is one good and quick way to blog.

@JeanMeriam, i was unaware of orable, thanks for the mention.

Thank you all for the info.  There is just some stuff I'd like to say in a blog that wouldn't work on HubPages.

Self hosted domain + wordpress is the ultimate solution.
Because blogspot and all other free service can shut you down anytime they want !

I have had heard many SEO gurus say that Wordpress is 80%++ SEO compliant out of the box.  That has to be a consideration if your visibility matters.

I would say Blogger is the best if you dont want to pay, wordpress is the best if you have your own domain/hosting.

I think that Wordpress is the best. The homepage is a PR9 and blogs hosted on Wordpress's domain as a subdomain tend to gain PR very quickly.
