   okay ... apologies first:  The subject title was a teaser.  But it got you here, right?
   
   Here's the real issue:
   
   I thought I was finally "getting it," all this SEO stuff.  Turns out, I'm not.
   
   I went to here:http://www.webconfs.com/search-engine-spider-simulator.php
   and put in a hub of mine, as a learning exercise.  I put in this URL (in case you want to repeat my little experiment and see my exact results): <link snipped>
   
   What I don't "get" is (near the bottom of the results) where it says "no meta keywords found."  Then it lists my hub summary after that, for the "meta description."
   
   So I'm obviously doing something wrong when I create my hubs.  I started manually entering a description of 200 or less, and tried to make it keyword rich, but clearly this is not enough.
   
   How / where do I put in meta keywords in a hub?

   You can not put meta tags in your hubs. But you don't need to worry about them much as they have lost their importance with search engines. I am not saying they don't matter at all as they do have some value but not much.
   
   I believe hubpages could have given us the option to add meta tags to our hubs but in case of misuse of them, hubs would've been penalized and that would have affected the whole site ultimately.

   Yea Meta Keywords mean very little. Google ignores this tag for a long time now.
   
   The tags feature here on hubpages is about the closest thing to keywords. You will probably get much better results with good use of tags than you ever would have with Meta Keywords.

   Okay ... so, crossing "meta tags" off my worry list.  Thank you!
   
   I am thinking it would be really helpful if there were a check-list, of sorts, for creating and upping the SEO of hubs.  like:
   
   1) choose a topic;
   2) use [this URL] to check the [keyword density?] of your proposed title;
   3) once you have a title that will give you the best SEO ranking [?], proceed with writing your hub;
   4) make sure that when you write your hub, you [whatever should go here, like: add the Amazon capsule with relevant ads]
   5) choose your tags;
   6) publish
   7) submit to Stumble;
   8) find relevant high-ranking sites and ask them to provide a back link;
   9) post to your Facebook page;
   10) provide links to new hub from older, relevant hubs;
   
   etc.
   
   Understand what I mean?  Maybe a list like that exists somewhere?  Should would be helpful for those of us who still struggle with defintions, terms, understanding it all...

      It will be great if you write a hub named SEO checklist.
      
      I have defined SEO somewhere in these forums as:
      
      SEO = Quality backlinks + Quality orignal content + K
      Where K = Some miscellaneous ranking factors.
      
      So, I don't worry much about other factors except backlinks, content, title, url. This is my checklist and SEO in my vies is an easy thing, its the myths that make SEO seem like an alien.
      
      Maybe someone else in the forums will refer you to a checklist page.

               ah, well, that poses a problem, doesn't it?
               
               I'm the newbie with the lack of tech knowledge -- but VERY logical and organized, and pretty good at writing instructions.
               
               Need some tech power to work with! 
               
               Maybe we can co-author something else.

            I wouldn't recommend writing any such Hub until you've been earning online for at least a year.
            
            Learning about SEO is a big learning curve.  After a few months you'll think you know it all. But trust me, you don't!  I see a lot of Hubs and websites offering 'advice' on this topic who have it totally wrong.  Then, of course, newbies like yourself read that advice, and think it's right, and pass on the misinformation!
            
            There are people here on HP who know what they're talking about.  Sunforged, for instance.

   I just read this one: http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Ultimate-Wr … -backlinks  and it's as close to a check-list as I can find already published.  Not quite exactly what I'm talking about, but definitely helpful.  In fact, I only wish I had time today to follow the process the author advocates.  Tomorrow.
   
   Today, my boys are stir crazy so we're taking the day off and going to the movies...
