"YOUR HUBS" options

hello, this is a question for the HubTeam.

Hubs options came up in another forum conversation. under "my account", there is a section called "YOUR HUBS", and in this section are several choices displayed:

    Statistics
    Traffic Sources
    Broken Links
    Malicious Links
    Copied Hubs

some people don't have the "Copied Hubs" option, although i do. i was just wondering a) what this is and why everyone doesn't have it and b) does it show if someone copied your hubs at HubPages or at other places?

    thanks.

I cant imagine anyone would copy my hubs tho...

myabe its to keep track of how many hubs you have that are "duplicate content" ?

I have it-- but I never noticed and I never looked before.  There are a couple listed that I knew were posted elsewhere-- but that's ok.
I just found another one from that list-- It does give me a byline, but no one asked my permission.
Thanks for bringing this subject up.

I'm thinking about what to do...
I wouldn't mind if they post a link. I would even them a unique 'teaser' about the article if they linked it. Plus I have several others in the same category they might like to have(links to).
      Still thinking.
      Thanks again.

I think it is still being tested, I noticed it appear a few days ago, and it has already picked something up which I dealt with.

I have had it for 6 months I think and it has two sites listed on the net that have copied one of my hubs. It has been there for quite awhile.

I think it may be for those with over 100 hubs, I'm GUESSING anyway.

I am really not sure the reason I think I got it August last year from the date of the site reported in there. That is like 7 mths ago.
Maybe it doesn't come up til they report to the hubber a copied site.

honestly tho, theres got to be a good reason. if someone has never reported their stuff as copied, there wouldn't be a reason to monitor it. makes sense to me.

Hubpages is clever at personalising your options. For instance all the men on hubpages get the following option which the women don't

The feature was introduced on a test basis about six months ago - I must admit, I thought everyone had it by now.  It's very useful.

It should be on the extreme left of your Account page under "Your Hubs".

Depends if someone is stealing your content or not tongue

As a suggestion I think you should put a number beside it in relation to the number of copied content sites it picks up.

Rochelle Frankposted 14 years agoin reply to this

But-- I'm assuming (and yes, I know what that means) It would not show up if you did not have any copied or duplicate hubs. I love the fact that it gives a quick and easy way to issue a legal warning to the unauthorized user.

I would like to have it because the alternative is opening every single hub I have and using google search for the phrases used within. I have read that hubpages are pretty good at informing you if they find copied content, but is this the case when others here have occasionally said they have stumbled across their own copied ocntent on the web?

    1. Marisa Wright profile image86
Marisa Wrightposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Izzy, when we say HubPages is pretty good of informing us, we're referring to that red "c" that appears next to a Hub in your Statistics page, and the "Copied Hubs" thing.  That's the only way they tell us.

HubPages don't email you and let you know, or anything like that.

And I do like the DMCA template, saves a bit of time sorting one out yourself, which might not cover all the angles.

    1. relache profile image73
relacheposted 14 years agoin reply to this

That DMCA template is not up to standard for a LOT of sites and you will find that if you use it, many places will just kick back your complaint on the grounds that you didn't supply the right info.

thisisoliposted 14 years agoin reply to this

It wont matter if you contact their ISP because it is their job to prove they did not violate the copyright.  If you can show it on a site which has a creation date earlier than their post, you are pretty much covered.

(I have filed so many of these things I have set up a seperate email address to deal with them all)

The other day, i saw someone that copied two of my hubs, coverted them into pdf format and posted it in a forum without link. I didn't bother myself over that because he was only sharing ideas.

    1. thisisoli profile image71
thisisoliposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Be careful with that, I recently found the entire homepage of one of my sites had been copied and published in to an Indian magazine in England, which had been uploaded as a PDF on to a website, which had then been read by Google and then indexed!

Filed a DMCA against the site that had uploaded the publucation, and a copyright infringment notice to the magazine.

One got taken down, the other sent me a settlement of £100 for 220 words big_smile

The Copied Hubs feature has existed in function for a long time now, and has been present on the dashboard since it was updated to the overall look that exists now.

If you don't see it that link, then no one has stolen any of your Hub content and copied it elsewhere.

If you see it, you've got copied Hubs.

      really?

well, i clicked on that option but it said i didn't have any copied hubs. i assume it should show links to whoever is copying my hubs, right?
