For the last several days I am having a problem inserting photos into my latest hub.  These are not large files.  It shows the photo as uploaded although the arrows keep turning as if it is still loading.  When I save it...there is nothing there.  Am actually holding off publishing my latest hub because of this.  Anyone else having similar problems?

This started 2 days ago and is still happening today.  Just tried it again and still does not work.  Frustrating!

Me, too.  I had trouble in Internet Explorer, but all was fine in Firefox...

I'm not as computer saavy as you.  Would have no idea how to switch from one to the other.

What is it doing when you try to upload?  In Internet Explorer, it would spin and spin and look like the photo was there, but alas, it wasn't.

BTW, getting another browser is easy, I promise.  smile  It would probably solve your issue today.  Mozilla Firefox is a useful HP browser for many reasons...

    1. Peggy W profile image96
Peggy Wposted 14 years agoin reply to this

That is exactly what it does...looks like the photo is there but the arrows keep spinning and when saved, there is no photo.

Will have to see if I have Firefox on our computer.  If so, can you switch back and forth between Internet Explorer and Firefox?  Do they both do the same things essentially?  I don't want to mess things up as my husband and I share the same computer.  I appreciate your advice.

Yes, I had that exact same experience in Internet Explorer.  Yes, Firefox and IE will do the same things, no huge change there.  Actually, Firefox has way more SEO options, bells and whistles.  You may not care about that, so it's just a good, solid browser in my opinion.  I have MUCH less trouble with it on HP.  Weird thing is, I have more success creating hubs with IE, EXCEPT for the photo part.  Sigh.  I feel for you and your frustration. Hope this helps.

You have to download Firefox (free) before you can use it. Yes, Firefox does the same things as Internet Explorer (and does some things better). And yes, you retain the option to use either.

This problem has been happening for about a week for me.

It hasnt been unique to a browser, Ill get an error that the file is to large (over 48m) when none have been larger than 40k.

Just saving the capsule and retrying has worked every time for me. But it is annoying wish it would get fixed already.

Okay, yes I've had that same error.  I've just been reloading and it seems to upload the SECOND time.  Thought it was just me.

Peggy Wposted 14 years agoin reply to this

It is not telling me that the file is too large and I tried saving it a second time...but alas...no luck.  Is this a Hubpage problem?  Wondering since others seem to be having the same problem?  If so, I hope that they correct it soon.

I've noticed 2 separate problems:  the "spinning" problem and the "too large" problem...

I completed a hub only yesterday and had to work with lots of pics and had no such problem at all. So, it can't be HP related, probably browser instead. But then I use Safari... neutral

Anyway, hope it works out for you soon, must be so exasperating!

I couldn't get some photos to upload in Safari two days ago, but it worked with Camino. Weird.

nah, I use 4 different computers, 20 different locations (restaurants, coffee shops etc) MAC and PC, and 3 different browsers, its an HP problem.

Plus even if an issue was somehow fixed by using Safari, it would still be an HP issue as Safari has a very small user base in comparison,

Out of my last 100,000 visits account wide

      44.6% IE
      36.7% FireFOX
      10.1% Safari
      6.2% Chrome

Web developers unfortunately must still design their sites to gunction correctly with IE and they certainly better work with firefox

Well...if it IS an HP problem...hope that they are paying attention and will correct this soon.  Guess I'll just quit trying for now and come back to it tomorrow and hope all is well.  Thanks for all the responses!

It truly is frustrating!  If I was a beginner at this, I'd probably throw up my hands and quit trying to write hubs.  Fortunately, I realize that it must be a temporary glitch that others are also "enjoying."

I know....just email HP and I'm sure they're working on it. And hey, you've got 164 hubs already...am sure another one can wait a few more days! (this is from someone who has just 16!)
Enjoy the forums instead....and best of luck with everything! And btw. now I'm really looking forward to reading this hub soon...! smile

Hmm....you're right...this certainly helps to clarify things a little more. Well, let's hope it gets sorted out soon for everyone...! smile

(btw. didn't know Safari was that unpopular...I'm kind of fond of it... neutral)

The same problem has been happening with my picture upload attempts. A picture is eventually uploaded after 3 or 4 attempts, refreshing, saving the capsule etc

Peggy Wposted 14 years agoin reply to this

I tried uploading a photo today again and did it twice with no luck.  Will try it up to 4 times like you did and see if that works.  This is surely taking extra time!

Another weird thing happens each time.  I go to edit the photo capsule and the hub goes to the top of the page.  Have to scroll down to get to the photo capsule again.  Does that each time also.

Maybe I'll just start writing other hubs and wait to insert photos when this problem gets resolved.  It must be a HP problem since so many others are seemingly having the same problem.   ???

That exact same thing happens to me when it's misbehaving!  It scrolls to the top of the page...  I barely got my contest entry submitted in time due to photo loading issues.  I will post about it in the contest thread.  It's really becoming a problem, was even a problem in Firefox today.  Enough is enough!!!

SAME THING is STILL occuring!  I thought that since the engineers were working on hubpages today that perhaps it would be resolved.  How do we get this resolved??????????

Im having that happen at the moment... im not sure if its because my photos originated from a pdf file sent to me or if its something else. As they are saved on my computer as jpeg and maybe its creativity time whilst these photos dont upload, it may be time for the creative flow to work out something I havent.

I think that they (at Hubpages) are working on this.  Hopefully all our problems will be solves soon.

My problems started when I uploaded the latest version of Internet Explorer, I have had this problem now for about three days, but I have just downloaded Firefox and I uploaded the same two photos that I had been trying unsuccessfully to load in under a minute on the first attempt by using Firefox as my browser this time.

    1. Peggy W profile image96
Peggy Wposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Believe it or not I am STILL having problems!  What I do now is to upload many photo capsules...edit...they zoom to the top of the page...I scroll down and save.  The thumbnail logo disappears.  Then sometime later I go back and sometimes it loads properly...sometimes not.  This certainly slows up any progress on writing hubs with photo inserts.  Doesn't matter if it is from my personal photos...or free downloaded ones.  Same thing happens!  Frustrating!

I have had photos sitting on my desktop for at least two or three weeks because of problems uploading photos. I published the hubs without the photos. i do not know which browser to use because Internet Explorer 8- which comes with this computer- is rigid. When I changed the default to Opera I got Bing.I changed to the default and got AOL and Bing.maybe when I have more time to poke around I will try again.IE will not allow Firefox or Google Chrome.

What do you mean, IE will not allow Firefox?  Do you mean you can't download it?

You do understand that you have to download the software on to your computer first, then you just open it from your desktop?

    has there been a soltuion yet?  I just joined hubpages and am trying to upload a photo but keep getting the following;
"Unknown file type JPEG File. Please upload a jpeg, gif, or png image file"

It'a a 1.5mb jpeg file!  I reduced it to a 800kb file and it still didn't work.  Then I saved it as a Tiff and still didn't work.

    Marissa is so right,

After 2 years of swearing and pulling my hair out I took her advice
And finally downloaded firefox.  And it work brilliantly

I am having trouble with sorting everything else out.
And now it has upset all my photos on another site.  I will have to take them all off and re do and it has doubled them all up

So  thats life I suppose.  Have fun

working
