Is it a good idea to unpublish a low performing hub?

I've never had a Hub that I couldn't improve or which didn't outright surprise me one day.

For low performing hub, you can try chaging the title with some new keywords, it worked for me.In one of my hub I used to  get 3 to 4 page view per day, after adding just a few new keyword in the title made that have attracting 20-30 organic visitors a day.thank you.

I wouldn't unpublish it as it could just be due to the topic isn't being searched heavily right now. You never know when it is going to swing back to the top again.

Thanks for answering flread and lynnechandler. I guess you are right, it's probably seasonal.
    You are a big help!

Either it is seasonal or it needs some some time and effort to make its place in SERPs.

Time - Some hubs start fetching traffic after sometime.
Effort - Maybe you'll like to build some backlinks to them.

Jill I have several from Halloween, Christmas etc that are low ranking right now, they will pick back up as the season comes back around and you will be one step ahead of the ones just getting started for next season.

All of mine are pretty low ranking, but that's because they suck.

Sab -- you only have two hubs for an avg of 1 hub a month since you've been here.  smile

Good trick is to use Google trends to see seasonal trends on topics.

I would agree with what the others have said, you could also try adding some more tags and editing the hubs a little. This helped me with a couple of low performing hubs, but a few of mine still need some work. smile

You get some surprising traffic even on seasonal Hubs.  Right now for some reason my New Year Hub is getting a fair few hits, and the Halloween and Christmas Hubs also see some views.

If you have put work into a Hub, no point in unpublishing it.  Try a few tweaks and a bit of promotion

As I am slowly learning "keywords" and backlinks I am taking some time and going back to my first hub's and trying various things to see what works - it is all a trial and error thing for me right now as I have a lot to learn.  The tweaking seems to work.

Same here - just a trial and error thing too.
Thanks for taking time to reply to my question.

I've been tweaking a low scoring hub of mine, but it seems to be going lower.  Now I feel like I don't know which part of it is good and which part isn't.  I have loads of tags on it, and some backlinks as well.

I haven't done any tweaking yet but after being low, the hub I was worried about just went back up the next day. So I don't really know what happened. Just some kind of seasonal thing I think.
      Thanks for the comment, nadp!

I still go back and improve hubs, even 2 years later. It's good maintenance, and try using the Google keyword tool if you haven't tried it. It helps you think of tags you might not have considered.

Sadly, although I wish I could lend some advice on this subject… all my hubs are high traffic, high performing nuggets of literary gold.

To 'tweak' them would be the equivalent of drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.  To delete them would amount to a crime against the English language itself.

Wow, then I should go over check your hubs to find what you are right.  Thanks Greek One!
