I am concerned about my rating.

I've read in several places on the forums that I don't need to worry about my HP author rating because it fluctuates all the time, but mine just seems to be dropping. I'm now at 5. I'm unsure why this is all of my hubs seem to be gradually going up rating-wise. Halp!

I'm also totally lost when it comes to tags it seems like they're kind of important.

I'm also kind of curious as to weather the steady increase in the ratings of my hubs means I'm awesome or whether its normal.

A HubScore is pretty confusing. Normally, I would say not to worry about it, but your score is probably the lowest I've seen so you definitely need to get your traffic up. Here are some suggestions:

      1. Be active in the forums. State your opinions, make some friends, share some humor, and let us know a bit about you. If someone likes what you have to say in the forums, they will most likely check out your hubs or at least follow you.

      2. You may want to try "pinging" your hubs. Some people will argue that it's not necessary, but "pinging" mine nearly tripled my traffic. You can "ping" a hub at http://www.pingler.com

      3. Keep writing and don't give up hope. Welcome to HubPages smile

The direction and topic of your hubs are not clear...I had a hard time understanding what you were talking about in the hub that I read.  Maybe if you make the topic and direction more clear it would help.  Just a suggestion though. smile

Falsor Wing, I noticed a lot of typos or spelling errors in your profile and hubs.  I think you may be able to improve the scores a little if you run a spell-checker on your profile and Hubs.  It's an easy way to drastically improve how your writing looks to any readers.  There's nothing wrong with being someone who can forget proper spellings (my son is that way, and so are a whole lot of other people), or else someone who has typos (everyone has typos).  It's just that spell-checker helps clean up the writing and make it look a lot better.  Lots of typos (or spelling errors) will often get writing "voted down" on HubPages.  Welcome to HubPages, by the way.    smile

Also, though, don't forget you've only been on here a couple of days.  It takes a little time for scores to go up  (whether your individual Hub scores or your overall score).

You're only as good as your rating is. wink

I am confused about the ratings too. The best thing I can say is enjoy writing articles, take your time writing, delevlop your skills, and write about something that interests you.
I wouldn't worry too much about the rating.

I've looked at a couple of your hubs and you have real originality and that is after all an essential part of being a writer that people want to read.  I've found one way to start off with a good score is to take your time over writing it and revisit in an unpublished state over a series of days.  For some reason, this process of editing seems to give you a better start off score.  Hope this helps!

I'm *really* new (20 hours at this point), but read quite a bit before starting to set up my first hub.  I'm down to 13(!) and noticed that while I was working on my hubs the score slowly dropped even during that time.  From what I've read the score dips at first (not sure why) and then goes up.  I might be wrong, but I'm kind of waiting to see what happens.  My Hubs aren't bad (I think) - made one that's a "product" type hub and one that's a "fun" hobby type hub.  The hubs themselves have moved up a bit, its just my rank that's dropped.

The consensus seems to be that the ratings system runs on magic and is both unknown and unknowable. I find this to be amusing.

Starfishfelix I must tell you I find your name quite satisfying, it amuses me and I approve of this. Henceforth I shall refer to you as Chief Awesome Name. Us new people have to stick together.

My ratings for both my articles and myself seem to be doing the same thing as yours.

LOL - thanks for the title! smile

It's been slightly over a day since I joined and made the two Hubs and it looks like I've hit bottom (0 rank!).  Hubs themselves still seem to be moving up.  Nowhere to go but up now!

What does your score start at?

Your score starts at 20. I find it odd that both Starfishfelix and Falsor Wing had their scores drop so quickly. I went 3-4 days before I wrote my first hub or joined in on the forums and my score didn't drop that quickly.

Try an experiment. I think I know what's going on. Interaction on the forums has a lot to do with hub score.

So does original content, and the number of impressions on the pages, hubs, you do write.

My hub score started going up when I wrote longer hubs, two or three capsules at least, and at minimum 1000 words. Another thing I did was 'answer questions in the help forums". All it takes is looking at the question, Need help, and Hub Makeover. If it's hub makeover, read the hub and make a nice comment. Then come back to forum with any helpful suggestion you might have. If you follow someone leave them fan mail. In the need help ask here, go up to the search box and try to find a hub to help the person.

The more you do, the higher your hub score. The more help you ask for, the lower the hub score.

I believe that makes sense unfortunatly I don't really think I'm all that qualified to answer most any of the questions posted here. hmmm oh well.

Good advice, Faybe.  I've noticed that, too--participation in the Hub community as a whole, as well as writing your own individual hubs in your own inimitable (did I spell that correctly?) style, is what makes a higher hub score.

Poor grammar and a misspelled url (yea I'm that good) doesn't count as inimitable style does it?

Ouch, two scores that low are uncommon, but I have seen a few recently, maybe Hubpages ha changed the algorythm to weed out more spammers.

But Falsor, if you don't know the answers to questions, try asking some instead!

The hub score is all about participation!

My best advice to both of you would be to submit a few more hubs, maybe send your current hubs to the Extreme Hub Makeover section of the forum, and submit your sites to a few social bookmarking tools just to get a little bit of external traffic flowing through your websites!

I opened a new account two days ago and watched my score plummet to zero. It was really shocking. By this afternoon it was 75.
Publish your writing. Comment on other hubs. Visit the answers section and ask or answer questions. That's all you need to do.

If your hubs are not great you can have them extreme makeovered.

If you have a mispelled URL unpublish it and republish it as a whole new hub with a new URL.

After that just hang in there. They might be getting tougher on the spammers. I have noticed a lot of one hit wonders in the last two weeks. They're probably trying to weed them out.
