I have noticed that ads are appearing on my profile page for something which my hubs oppose. Example, I say that AGW is false and a hoax, whereas on my profile page, you are displaying ads saying that AGW is true, and advocating actions to take to prevent it.
Can we please have a feature which will stop this happening, as it is clearly contradictory and makes both Hubpages and me look a bit silly.
Ads on profile pages are triggered by the written content, essentially whatever your write. HubPages doesn't control those ads, Google does and they don't bother to check to see if you are for or against something when they match up an ad.
Yes, I understand that, but it is a misnomer, and also most embarrasing that I write 6 hubs arguing against man-made global warming, and then ads appears on my profile/home page supporting the man-made global warming theory.
I also realise that this is one of the inadequacies of picking up keyword phrases ignoring the context, and using them to do targeted advertising.
BUT . . . there must be a way to improve upon this. . .
ie - provide the option to suppress ads on the profile page
or - other ?
Sannyasinman maybe this will help you out http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/38788 I really do not know as I have not figured it all out yet but you might have better luck.
Thanks for the link.
Yes, I know about this and already use it to block various sites. Problem is, it is retro-active. ie you have to already see the ad appear, then go and block the site in question in Google. With ads rotating frequently on the profile page, I would not necessarily see all of them . . and does this work on the profile page anyway?
I had that problem last fall.
There were political attack ads under my photo - and the politician in question is somebody that I have done campaign work for. My friends were contacting me, wanting to know why my profile page was attacking him.
It was horrible and embarrassing.
Hiya Jen.
So there are at least two of us who would like a feature added to Hubpages to fix this?
You can block them, but if it is HP's impression, the ads you blocked will still get through.
I was so pissed off about it. Now the guy has been all over the news because of the health care deal, I keep nervously checking my profile to see if those damn ads are back. So far they are not.
Thanks Jen.
We can already block ads on individual hubs. Why not give us the option to block ads on the profile page as well? Do you agree?
Also, if the hubber wants certain sites blocked, Hubpages should respect this and not override or ignore it, even on their impressions.
Yes.
The problem, as you stated, is that you don't know who to block until the ad gets served up.
I'll go weeks at a time without looking at my profile. I checked it a lot the week the health bill was up for a vote though!
The thought of monitoring it that closely seems like too much, so I just ~shrug~.
I don't have any hubs up that would have been contradicted by that ad though. I don't put my political stuff up on HP lol So in my case, this was just one isolated problem.
I'm hoping there is something that can help you out here. It is a problem!
Hope you've been good! It's been awhile since we had fun together on the forums
Yes it's been a while and yes I have been rather too good (sigh) . .
How are things with you?
Geez, this took a long time to find.
Tell me this is not the funniest profile page ever: talk about your ads "lining up":

Things with me have been real good actually.
Kinda got back together with a guy I was seeing last summer... we decided not to let things get serious. How perfect is THAT

I know that you can choose to display your idle hubs on your profile page, but I don't, because I don't want Google to see them at all and get confused by all those "do not follow." What this means is that my idle hubs are not available for anyone to see, and I have to actively...

When I go to my profile page I was shocked to see a big vertical banner advertising "fitness" for gay men, with a picture of a half-naked man. I find this inappropriate, at least as far as my profile is concerned. There is nothing in my profile or my hubs to suggest that such ads...

I just updated my HubPages profile a couple days ago and in my profile linked to some of my favorite hub topics that I wrote about. Is this bad to do this since on the profile page we have those same hubs randomly come up below? I just don't want overkill but like the thought that I've got my...

It would be useful to be able to sort our hubs into categories on the profile page. This would make it easier for readers to see what else is available in subjects that interest them, and also remind writers to work on a niche. I think the option was available on the old profile page - was it...
