It is a story line along the lines of renewal, giving hope in dark times etc.  Even King Arthur didn't die but went 'into' the mountain where he sleeps until he is needed again.  Also I guess civilizations go in cycles and the same old same old is likely to come around again and it is a way of passing the old advice or idea down a whole pile of centuries.

Just renewal I would say (which is hope in a way), ancient spring stuff, green man, wicker man, phoenix, you name it Christianity borrowed it.  For a religion or creed etc it helps to pass it down the ages with the promise of a possibility that the central character may come back in the time of worshipper. Traditionally a very very very very long wait I believe.

Of course, if religion didn't use garbage like a second coming, there would be nothing to keep the religious faithful. If the religious believe it is only a matter of time before being rewarded and the sinners being punished, it keeps the faith!

If we are going to believe in Jesus and the second coming we should believe  what "he"   said about it.
Whatever the second coming is said to be? I think that Jesus was correct when he said that  "some of you standing here shall not taste of death till you see me coming in the clouds sitting at the right hand of Power"
Religion interprets his words too much; changing the entire meaning of the message.

Are you then saying that the second coming was immediately after his 'resurrection' ?

We actually have to go to the book of Daniel to determine exactly when the second coming was peophesied to be.
After 62 weeks they will kill the Messiah.
It will be 69 weeks unto the Messiah "THE PRINCE"
Mathmatically speaking the 69 weeks would have been finished around 94 AD.  Which happens to be about the time that God gave the revelation to Jesus and told him to give this to his servents (Plural)
If ya notice also in Daniel; the Prince that shall come CONFIRMS "THE" covenant for one week
After 69 weeks there is but one week left of the 70 that was given to the Hebrew Nation to quit sinning and anoint the most holy.

      perfect, Jerami.

      1. coming down in the flesh.
      2. coming up from the grave.
      3. ascending to the highest place.
      4. sending the Teacher.

Exactly   and it all happened as Jesus said that it would.

Unfortunately as was the first advent...  It did not fit in with peoples expectations as to how it was going to be.
