Is It Easier for Women to Get Followers Than Men?

   I'm not saying this in the context of anything suggestive or that women bat their eyelashes and get followers. But, over the years of my online life I noticed that most women band together, while men usually go as a lone wolf. Do you think this is true? Yes/no? Maybe?

      Do you think that maybe men feel the need to exhibit a more expert and achomplished level of achievement before putting themselves out there than do women. ..and maybe women are quicker to say, I don't know teach me?  This is just the first thing that pops into my head.  As I said I will think about it and follow this forum thread, very interesting.

      i don't think it's true, as i have way more followers than a lot of female hubbers who have been on here longer or about the same time length as me.  however, i will say this though.  i do tend to notice that the hubbers who often have avatars with barely clothed girls get a lot of fans rather quickly.  as well as the hubbers who like to create hubs about sexy women wearing almost nothing, and all they do is talk about how hot the girl is in all the hubs.  yeah, i do tend to notice those get all the traffic if you know what i mean.

   I'm sure 90% REAL female authors don't even bother about getting followers.(Reciprocal followers and following interesting hubber is another thing).

   I think the women probably follow on merit, btu i am also sure a fair number of the ladies are followed for their looks. I don't mean this in a detrimental way, many of the women on Hubpages are very talented writers, but I think you only have to look at the average number of followers per woman with cute picture vs followes of male profiles

   Just a guess, but I'd say bikini pics and images of big boobs would probably enhance the whole "following/fan club" process, in many cases.

      I confess to checking out what "hawt chick" hubbers write out of curiosity more than male or non-human avatars.  I realize that less than .005% of them are actually female, but I play along.  Male hubbers or "other" avatars have to say something funny or interesting first.  Judge me if you will, but I embrace my shallowness.  I rarely fan anyone though.

   lol...well, you could always try replacing your avatars with a hot bikini photo and see if it makes a difference. If I remember, someone even tried it here once and the whole experiment failed!
   
   Personally, I don't care about just adding to the number of followers - it's just a number afterall. What I truly value is a follower interested in my work, so depends on what you're looking for

      I agree, but I said "enhance the process."  The same hubber with an avatar of a dirty jackass, would probably get less fans than if he/she had an avatar of a busty babe - this is, of course, with the same content but with a different profile pic.    I don't know for sure, but just going by the "shallow factor" - as Shadesbreath recently pointed out.

         well, you're free to give this one a shot! An avatar is everyone's personal choice afterall, so why not give it a try? It's just one of those 'first impression' things I suppose... matters for some; for others, it's an insignificance.

   I agree with myownworld on the point of the quality of followers vs. the quantity.  I'd rather have fewer followers and know who they are and have some personal connection with them than hundreds who I can't remember and who don't make any impression on me.
   
   I don't think getting followers is gender based.  I think it has everything to do with the hubs and the personality of the hubber.

   while we are on this subject, I'd like to add that on the other hand, I've OFTEN been tempted to replace my picture (that's just me as I am) with an avatar (preferably, one of those cool unisex ones!) just so more people could take my writing seriously.... so there... alot of women DON't want people to follow them just because they're female...

                  Well I got quite a rise when I first changed to that avatar but things have returned to "normal" now. Perhaps one has to keep refreshing the avatar with ever sexier presentations to arouse interest.

    Greek One has been here 10 months with 18 hubs and 76 followers.
    
    On the other hand, myownworld has been here only 8 months with only 17 hubs but has 466 followers!
    
    Clearly, myownworld is a wonderful mix of beauty and brains as her avatar and her hubs show.
    
    Both Greek One and myownworld are good writers with good hubs.

       i guess I should look shocked....but well, all I can say in my defense is that I do use an actual picture of mine, and had I been using a 'busty sexy avatar' (not that I'm judging  anyone for doing so) I might have felt less valued..so there IS a difference between using one's own personal picture and a sexy avatar of just anyone...

    I have to agree with Tantrums Profile - a profile can be a character and not the real person.  Pictures/Avatars can be deceiving, so...How do you know fer sure which hubber is male or female? (if they don't say, that is lol)

          lol  I guess I didn't explain myself very well.  I was trying to say Who knows if women get followers easier than men?  There could be characters behind the avatars and they could be a different gender than admitted to.

    It's based on the content, quality and interest of the reader.  There are some hubbers who pose as the opposite sex, and still have high rates of followers as either sex.  Go figure.

    I had nothing to better to do just now, so I just went through around 50 or so pages of the top Hubbers.  It's reassurring to see how very few of people's images are anything even close to one of those "typical" "actress shots".
    
    So, it looks to me as if, for the most part, those "actress" shots we all know (and don't particularly love) aren't doing the Hubbers who use them a whole lot of good.
