Has it happened before on HubPages? What type of articles triggered it?
I would think that anyone who does this puts their own account at risk.
Why would anyone want to do something like that to another person? Surely the ad companies like AdSense will have ways to ignore such malicious clicks
I've wondered about this too, some days I have more clicks than page views and I did wonder if someone was trying to scupper me.
It is a weird area. I often wonder if it is ok to click other peoples ads on their hubs (i'm sure it is) just because I have a weird feeling that they might interperat it as me clicking my own ads (I'm probably paranoid). It is probably not the case but I still don't think I have clicked on any hubbers ads.
The same thing crossed my mind. I never click ads on HubPages for that reason.
If you use referral trackers at all, there is also the outside chance that you might be clicking on your own ads as someone has just gone into that hub using your tracker and your adsense id is showing
I'd never thought of that. A very good point.
A URL tracker is only understood by HubPages and means absolutely nothing to search engines. There is no way a search engine could identify a user this way... just think of the privacy issues this would cause.
Hmmm, you could be right there.
I think I might be suffering from some kind of paranoia as far as clicking on ads on HubPages is concerned. I really am afraid to do it.
There are malicious characters on HP - I had a feeling that someone was constantly downrating a couple of my 'political-ish' hubs - if clicking on the ads causses me a problem I would like to know that HP have this covered ?
Not only is that cruel it is also very stupid. The person would not only jepodise the victims account, but also their own. I would hope no one would be that horrid.
I bet this is why Squidoo uses their own adsense account instead of individual writers.
Or it could be because they dont want their writers to know just how much they REALLY earn? I prefer this very transparent system to be honest.... Who really knows how much of and how their revenue gets distributed? I'm not suggesting anything too untoward, but I am naturally wary...
You have all the reasons to wary. When my lenses got a good traffic they earned about one tenth of corresponding hubs on similar traffic...
Doesn't suprise me! I have never published a Lens, I have had a look at the site, it didn't take my fancy... and that's as far as it goes. It doesn't look great, is even more full of crap than Hubpages, and the colours are just ghastly!
I just don't like their revenue system, it is effectively an online communist community, equal distribution of earnings. If I spend hours perfecting my keyword terms then I expect to be paid precisely 50% of my AdSense earnings from those particular hubs (well 60% since I'm here ) I am not convinced that their system works like that, well it's just not transparent, I get the feeling that quality and innovation is not rewarded there. You can't tell me that they sit there are work out writers shares with a calculator and using AdSense channels... they distribute a proportion of YOUR earnings to those who have not EARNT it.
And that comes from your favourite socialist

Can it go against Google rules if they have deliberately done this thinking they are helping you? I am worried because I just had a comment posted saying "thumbs up and adsense."

Something just occured to me, not only are we writers here but we are ALSO CONSUMERS. I see nothing wrong with clicking on a fellow hubbers google ad if it's something we are interested in. I am getting the feeling that some people are afraid to do this for fear of reprisal for being click happy...

Have any of you found detestable ads on your hubs? It is a "game" with girls in bras...how distasteful I want it off my hub...do you know if we have a say in this? It has nothing to do with my poem and is disgusting to me.

First off, I reached 1/2 of my payout today, so that is very exciting! Thank you all for the advice so far, but I am in need of more. I am a little concerned, because I earned from two clicks this morning from a very low traffic hub. I thought that was really weird when I saw how much I had earned...

I was up to 95.16 on my adsense and then all of a sudden it stopped, but I don't remember making any changes - Since it is so close to the threshold, can someone please check my account to see why it is not registering hits any more? How can I fix this? I really appreciate your help.

Here's something for you guys to consider, and I am simply reiterating a comment I made on another post. You need organic traffic to your Hubs! Why? If you are using adsense, or any other monetization method on Hubpages, you will not, I repeat, you will NOT get credit for clicks on your ads from...
