      It seems we have two historical events.. both in the presidency... the first dog in the white house? under the presidency rule? What do you feed a celebrety like that? (the dog) whom ever catches Obama buying dog food for that dog is going to get a billion dollars in free kibble advertizing... Will it be an underdog? I hate to bring up the name but I can't think of anyone more qualified to write the "funny" hub on this issue than Jimster (I didn't say it hehe) he loves to write those hubs like this... do it do it I double DOG dare you hehe (seriousely you got the sense of humor for this)...

         No, not the first dog in the White House by a long shot. Actually, GWB's dog just bit some reporter!
         
         Sally, I would LOVE to see a mutt in the White House. Mutts are the best!

            Obama in his latest speach said and I quote "I would like to get a mut (studder) a mut like me (everyone giggles)"  then strangely the video will no longer stream... I love this guy, he is more "human" like than any of the other "alien like" president (elects) we've had before.. he has a certain realism about him... he did mention also that not all long haired dogs are hypoalergenic (I forget how he put it he used the words not and hypalergenic).. the stream is here:

   I don't think I could manage a full hub on the subject, but I have heard, from sources of unknown reliability, that they're planning on getting a rescue dog, and that one of the girls is allergic, so it might be a poodle...

   I hope that the Obamas pick a rescue dog.  Not only do I think it's the "right" way to get a pet, but it'll give great exposure to the rescue they get the dog from, and to rescue pets in general.  It would just feel right to have a rescue mutt in the White House living it up.
   
   They better not get one of those Chinese Crested dogs, though.  I think they're hypo-allergenic, but I can't see one as the mascot of our country!  Yucky naked weird dog!

      annemaeve, we all need rescuing right now.  I would rejoice in a mutt living it up in the White House.  How apporopriate is that, for so many reasons?

   Yes, kerryg, you heard correctly.  Perhaps you listen to NPR, too?
   
   I know there are many Hubbers here who have a special expertise to shed some fascinating light on this subject...as for myself, I'm a researcher, a dubious dog lover, and a cat person at heart.  But I think this topic is so rich in implications about our future.

   Me, too, kerryg.  I have heard that the Obamas are definitely looking to a rescue animal, and a mutt would be the best.
   
   I didn't hear that the Bush dog bit a reporter, but since that's so, I'd say it's definitely time to leave.  LOL.

      There's really been a whole lot more pets than I had thought: lots of TV coverage here of the current incumbant taking a bite out of a reporter LOL

   I would like to see the First Family adopt a 3-legged pooch, or any pooch with a handicap.  What I mean by that is I think it would speak volumes to show that a pooch could overcome adversity, face major challenges, and still come out on topm just as our new President has

   The funny thing about allergies and Obama's daughter is that no dog is 100% hypoallergenic. I mean not even poodles. You just can't get away from dog dander, which is what people are typically allergic to, not the fur. The actual extent of the allergies and the dog breed will vary.
   
   Obama wants a mutt, like him, and I bet they end up paying thousands for a hybrid "designer breed." *boo*
   
   
   For personal reasons, I'd love for there to be a bully breed in the white house. But, that'll never happen. And, people who are already complaining about a black family in the White House, will take it as a part of the reputation of the bully breeds and black people if Obama brought a bully in the White House. *Again boo*

      I doubt they would get a "bully" dog when they have two young girls.Obama doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to want to own one. I hope they do get a mutt from a shelter, that would say so much and would maybe even result in more dogs being rescued.

      By bully breed I'm assuming you mean a pit bull.  Actually, I'm kind of hoping they do rescue just that dog (except that it doesn't seem to rate low on the dander scale).  The breed needs a champion speaking for it.  Bet you dollars to donuts they could find a PBT puppy in a shelter.  And that might mean the end of dog fighting.
