There is so much and so many that bemoan and voice with distain their contempt for America that it is becoming increasing difficult to understand what it was that made America so great. Perhaps in a forum such as this we may refocus on what those attributes are and why they should be maintained.

there is a documentary series on the History channel talking about America, The History of Us. tonight will be the second night. it airs each sunday at 9 P.M. eastern time. I watched it last week and was very impressed. a good reminder of what is good about our country!

we see and hear and believe what we choose to see and hear and believe. that will never change.

I don't think there is one singular thing that one could point to in regards to the greatest thing that America has brought to the world.  The concept of individual freedom supported by the economic structure of Capitalism listed in the Bill of Rights allowed for the first time in the history of the human race that the average man could achieve on his own merit without permission of the Church or the State.  Although the weaknesses in such a system are obvious and have been delicately pointed out by those who would destroy that system, the system never promoted nor was founded on any idea of perfection.  As such an entity of perfection does not exist anywhere in the universe.  America brought freedom to the world, America brought financial independence to the world and to open her doors to all that would come and be Americans.
