I have some writing experience behind me, but little experience with SEO or web promotion. I decided that Hubpages would be a great learning experience to help me broaden my horizons, but have literally had to start at square oneand I was wondering if some of you more experienced hubbers could take a quick look at my hubs and give a little advice.
I first decided to start a group of hubs which focused primarily on frugal living, saving money, and making money; I thought they would be popular topics. But now I am wondering if they are too popular for me to be able to generate desired traffic. Any insight on this, as well as constructive criticism concerning my hubs would be greatly appreciated.
I have to add that I have been very encouraged reading all the posts from hubbers here in the forums. There is a something really encouraging about the spirit of a place where fellow writers are so helpful and encouraging to one another. Cheers to all!
I think if you are a good writer and you stick to a niche like you have, you will eventually see results.
Welcome to HubPages!!!
Try building some backlinks AND ...
Patience my friend, is a virtue!
In most cases, hubs take some time to rank high in SERPs especially for topics with some competition.
Thanks for the advice! I know that patience is going to be necessary as ranking with the search engines is not going to happen overnight.
But I guess my real question was whether or not I should essentially "start over" and write a group of hubs with a topic that does not already have so much competition.
Even if a niche seems heavily competitive, you just may be able to narrow your focus more.
for instance the "Save money" or "coupons" niches may be very tough to get ranked for, but maybe a more focused "save money with left-handed widgets" or "coupons for women's clothes" direction may be easier to rank for. or maybe not. Just a little keyword research will help you decide.
even if you are not ready to get into a lot of seo, you MUST at least do some keyword research if you want your hubs found.
do a hub search here for "keywords". There is a lot of valuable advice from experienced hubbers that will help you.

Personally, I think you are doing very well, you only joined two weeks ago and you have already achieved a hubber ranking of 87, that is excellent. Also as to traffic, the beginning can be frustrating at times. I suggest you back link, and promote your hubs by tweeting them everyday, that helps. Most of all you need to be patient. It takes time. Hang in there, you are doing a great job.
Generating traffic takes time and we all had to first establish a web presence. Once you do that with marketing your urls then traffic starts building. Make a schedule, one two days to maybe write, research, tweak and edit, another day promoting, etc. A routine will help set a ryhthm. Use search at the top right of the page here and you will find all sorts of awesome and helpful articles answering questions about traffic. Don't be too hard on yourself and for competition, we dont all share information per verbatim. welcome to HubPages!
You will get there, backlinking, social networking and it will come together. You are starting off very nicely. Welcome.
