Watching Oliver Stone's "The Doors" and it's trippy -- no matter how many times I've seen it.
What is your favorite movie about a musician or musical group?

This was the first movie I saw in a theater and I was inconsolable at the end. "Not my Rickyyy!" Oh, kills me! My poor babysitter had taken me and I remember her trying to tell me that it was just a movie, but I knew that it was TRUE. Sad times, good flick. smile

Do not watch Chapter 27 (especially at 2am right before you go to sleep like I did), not a rock movie, but it scared the hell outta me!

Detroit Rock City, about 4 teen friends that try to scam their way into a Kiss concert in 1978.  Very cool

    Does "The Wall" count?
Also, Almost Famous and Spinal Tap are very good. I also second tksensei's Blues Brothers. "We're on a mission from God." Classic.

How about Eddie and the Cruisers? This movie put John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band on the charts with the song "On the Dark Side."

Thumbs up to The Wall and The Blues Brothers also.

Good picks (and pics) all around!
Thanks for the Spinal Tap scene -- I knew before I even clicked on it it was going to be the "11" scene. Christopher Guest is a genius. And "A Mighty Wind" is his comedic take on folk music.

Concert movies definitely count. Two of my faves have always been "The Last Waltz" about The Band and "Gimme Shelter" -- the historic Stones concert at Altamont.

While we are at It throw In "Woodstock " from 1969 . And as far as Christopher Guest goes "Best In Show " has to be one of the funniest movies ever !

I really love the music in "Lady sings the Blues" its the life/bio of legendary Jazz and Blues singer Billie Holiday.
Dianna Ross actually did a pretty descent job playing the role of one of my all time favorite singers.

The acting was not too great in the "Jazz singer" played by Neil Diamond. But I like his music. (do I dare admit to owning all of his records, tapes including the ones on eight track, CDs and movies)

MM, I watched "The Doors" movie with my daughter a couple of months ago for the first time. It is really well made, I was surprised.
