What are your favorite places to photography in the DC metropolitan area?

I am not a photographer at all, but I do see lots of people taking pictures all the time at 'the mall' area on the green. There would be some great shots; carousel, tourists, beautiful trees, the architecture of the Smithsonian buildings...
One of my friends who is a photographer absolutely loves the Dupont Circle area. The embassies are right there, so taking pictures of all the flags is one thing he enjoys. The park in the middle of Dupont Circle, while very small, has some beautiful foliage at this time of year.
Also, I cannot remember the name of this place....(US Botanical Gardens maybe)....but it is right near the White House. Lots of gorgeous gardens and sculptures outside. I love it there, but have trouble because of my allergies and all the flowers/pollen.
That would be an awesome place to photograph.
