What does 9th cousin twice removed mean??

   I am having a hard time understanding this.
   
   I was reading in another blog that George Bush is related to Obama by being 11th cousing 3 times removed.
   
   What the heck does 3 times removed even mean??
   
   How can you remove someone?? I don't understand, HELP, I'm going crazy over this.

      it means that one of them is a descendant of the other person's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparent and the other is a a descendant of the other person's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparent.

      I stopped over at ask.com this is what I found,..
      it means two generations away from you. For example, my mother's cousin is my cousin "once removed" she is of my mother's generation which is the one before mine. A cousin who is "twice removed" would be the same generation as your grandparents.

      It means if you hook up, they can't throw you in jail and even the tabloids would have trouble using it to sell papers.

      Not much. It's so convoluted you could deduce that quantum string theory is the root cause for malaria. Yes, they may actually be related through a very long string of associations, but all that proves is that we are all likely related in some distant, believe it or not....

   once removed means 'a generation apart'
   
   So, three generations ago, Bush and Obama had a common relative who was the offspring of each of their families 11 times out from their first cousins.
   
   For example, if your cousin has a child, that child is your second cousin, and so on.
   
   I read somewhere that we are all 50th cousins of each other anyway. Just one big happy family

   Madame X I was reading on another site that we are all related in someway, if you look back far enough in the family tree.
   so may be we are all 50th cousin 10 times removes LOL
