Steve Schmidt, former campaign strategist for John McCain, said that picking Sarah Palin for the Republicans' 2012 presidential nominee would lead to a catastrophic loss.

The campaign manager for McCain? How'd that work out?

Decidedly worse when Palin joined the ticket.
I don't know if it's true or not, but all I've heard is how she is the New Voice for the GOP, or Next Generation of the GOP, or whatever. I do not see how. She may be intelligent and energetic, but that voice. I know I shouldn't judge by that, but how can anyone take her seriously when she sounds like a character from "Fargo"?

You can't take anyone seriously who has a regional accent?
Not that one, apparently.

hmm
if you had asked me that a year ago, i would have agreed with you.
but she is an opportunist, and she probably feels like this time around she would have an excellent shot at it. she won't go away, and is already popping up all over the place. i think she is laying the groundwork now for her stunning *coff* comeback ![]()

Regional accent? From where? Not Alaska.

I think she's originally from Idaho, but I could be wrong.
Anything that comes out of the McCain camp is suspicious by definition. For all the media's hatchet job on her, and the mountain if disinformation they have spewed out, I think she has a lot going for her. Not the least of which is that she scares the crap out of some on the left.

You think mcain would have done better without Palin? Not hardly and as far as catastrophic events go mcains people would certainly recognize one.
Well, David Brooks, who is hardly a liberal, actually wrote a column today in the NYT about how the GOP is shooting itself in the foot by pandering to the ugliest fringe elements of its base:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/opinion/02brooks.html
I think that Palin is just the latest loudest example of this trend.
I don't know. It shocked me to see Brooks call that out. He's pretty conservative. But then, I also think that it's easy to underestimate the potential for fascism here. I've thought that all along. You've got big, big money behind little, little minds and lots of terrified enraged people willing to make tons of noise and carry guns while doing it.
Not a good combo IMO. Depending on how the next couple of years shake out, she could win. I'll be heading for the northern border ASAP if she does.
You can move in with me if you have to Pam ![]()
I might be taking you up on that come November 6th, 2012!
No way am I staying in a country run by Lady MacBeth.

Surely the world will come to their senses by then ![]()
Ya think? God I hope so. ![]()
If Sarah Palin is ever elected would be complaining at town hall meetings. Just kidding, but I would definitely not vote for her, and I would certainly share that opinion with as many people as I could.

You might as well just leave now if that's how you feel.
Other countries would probably cut all ties with America if Palin got in.
I believe that most democracies find it amazing that she would be offered office. ![]()

That won't do any good. Canada will be the first country she invades.
