So, it's acceptable for coaches to criticize officials is it?
By criticizing officials it undermines their authority. In professional sports where gamesmanship is rife, and officials have a hard time arriving at the correct decisions, being critical of those decisions is counter productive.
Frequently, referees /officials are blamed by coaches for their team when they play below par. Scapegoating officials serves no constructive purpose whatsoever.- 94

Not so.
An official is a neutral arbiter who ensures fair play and administers rules.
If an official makes a mistake it will be an honest mistake. You cannot have coaches screaming at an official because he's made an honest mistake. It reflects badly on the coach and potentially brings the game into disrepute.
If an official continues to make 'honest mistakes' he will be removed from officiating, or relegated to a lower level until he can demonstrate more accurate decision making at critical plays.

I'm with both of you on this count! Refs can make bad calls, but if coaches display poor sportsmanship on a professional level where does that leave the kids coming up in team sports?
