Many arguments about what Obama is doing and not doing has brought me to this question, " What would you do differently if you were President of the U.S.? Keep in mind you came into office with a huge deficit and an on-going war, a recession and the unemployment rate is high. Homes are still being foreclosed but they say the market is turning around. How would you handle health reform, the economy and keeping U.S. soil safe? Let's try to have this discussion without argument a good debate without swearing. Once the debate is complete we will take a vote on who would make a great U.S. President right here on Hubpages so this is going to be a two-part thread. Are you ready for the challenge?

Well, this question has to wide of a range and is a loaded question.

But the mistakes that I see Obama making that I would do differently would be to take care of the current problems before embarking on something ambitious like healthcare reform because that takes away everyone's time (Obama, Congress, etc.) from our current problems.

I would do whatever it takes to unite both parties on certain issues because Obama has even split the Democrats on certain issues.

I would also give less speeches.  I think his approval rating is going down on some level because of over-exposure.

I can understand him wanting to make a name for himself and tackle a million things at once but he needs to prioritize.  I don't think he set up a proper administration to get things done without him.  So he needs to concentrate on the priorities right now which is the economy, military/terrorism and unemployment.

I would lower business tax and possibly prevent a larger exodus of business to other Countries. I would lower personal income tax because it has shown the IRS gets more money when its done! I would push for tort reform and open up interstate commerce for health care insurance. I would outlaw American Idol and any show featuring dancing!

I don't know if any of us could answer that. hmm

I think once you're in that 'hot' seat, so many things change because of all the variables involved.

As you said, he has so many messes to straighten out before he can really do what he wants to do. He has certainly helped some homeowners keep their homes and put people back in college. It's sad that so many are against him forgetting what he walked into. We can all stand or (sit) on the sidelines and complain or do whatever we can do in our part of the country to make things better. my 2 cents. A lot of complainers do nothing.

I wouldn't want his job. smile

I would ask everyone who questions my Presidency and doesn't like the way I am leading the country to leave their name and email on a website.

    Why?

To give everyone of them an opportunity to spend a day with me. They will then have an indepth knowledge of why I make certain decisions and would also see the fuller picture of being a President. At the end of the day, I would give them an opportunity to share their views and see if there is anything they would have liked to be done differently or suggestions.

A team will monitor the website. i.e contacting people with dates available, co-ordination etc

In doing this  I am positive that people will change their negative views as they would’ve had a chance to see the inside challenges I face as a president. Also, have an idea of what’s in the pipeline and not forgetting the fact that they get a ride in “The Beast” and if I’m flying – Air force one.

At the end of the day, when I thank them (well, just being polite) for spending the day with me – as I open the door to the Oval office and bid them farewell, my final question to them would be “Oh, by the way, do you think I deserved that Nobel Peace Prize?”  smile

Ps. I did a Hub out that interracial thread you brought up recently and referenced you at the bottom. Hope you don't mind. Thx.

I, unlike most of the complainers here, am fairly pleased with Obama's performance so far. I don't pretend to be a politician, so I can't say how I'd approach things differently.
