Google users in the United Kingdom will notice today that we "turned the lights out" on the http://Google.co.uk  homepage as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour......jimmy

I noticed this too in Google USA http://www.google.com/, and it caught me by surprise. Its a good way of bringing awareness.

So was google actually down, with the lights off?

Those who choose to participate will be turning off their lights here in about 7 minutes. I've already lit the candles before plunging the house into darkness. The computer is going off, too.

Google.ca is the same. Their page is just black. There is info on Earth Hour accessible from the front page.

The power was off here for an hour, but that was just a power outtage. Nothing to do with Earth hour...lol
