Hey Hubpages Staff,
I've been a member for 15 months now and have been told countless times that "Share with Followers" is NOT to be used by the author of a hub.
Then why is it that the FEED is loaded with Hubbers promoting their own work?
If you are offended by people using this tool inappropriately, then why not simply unfollow them? There is always a simple solution to a simple problem, do you want the Hubpages staff to unfollow them for you?
Welcome back by the way, where did you go?
I dunno. I know I accidentally hit it on one of mine once and I know someone (Shadesbreath? Not sure) has used it when he has made important updates - and that some people objected.
I have used it to promote other folks hubs that I really liked.
But I thought that new hubs automatically went into the feed and that when anyone looks at the Feed, they only see stuff by the people they are following...
Am I confused?
Every new hub goes into the Feed once, but then promptly disappears. When people comment, you can then re-share the hub, and the comments will show up on the Feed. Otherwise, they get swallowed up by all the other people who are hitting "share".
I used it once to whore out a hub just to see if it worked. I don't recall having pissed anyone off though. I never bothered since then, because I don't recall it having had any effect at all.
Hey, I asked about this when they first came out with Feed. I liked general hubtivity better. But since nobody responded, I decided to join them rather than fight them, and I hit "share" every time I get a new comment. They allow it.
Aya, I think it automatically hits the feed whenever you do respond with a comment. I believe it shows up on your followers feed without hitting share with followers.
I share with followers at times if I updated a hub's content or feel like an old hub may not have been read by recently added followers, but I don't use it to promote.
RebekahELLE, every day I see your hubs on Hubfeed with several comments showing, and sometimes the comments aren't even new. You were my role model on this.
I used to share them often because I thought that's what it was there for but recently it is because I either updated or responded with a comment. On my hubs the oldest comments are listed first. Some days I spend updating! I don't mean to offend anyone.. I don't mind at all seeing hubbers sharing their own hubs. It really doesn't bother me. I often see a few hubbers sharing their hubs often and more than once I've clicked on one that I missed when it was first published.
I'm not offended. I just thought it was okay to do it, because you were doing it. ;->
Here's how it worked with me: at first, I missed hubtivity, and I didn't like the Feed. Then I realized I had to adapt to the new way of doing things, and I tried to follow the lead of people like you who seemed to be doing well. So I was surprised Cagsil thought it wasn't okay.
Which raises the obvious question: where does HP tell us what is or is not OK with regard to the feed?
I'm trying to access http://learningcenter.hubpages.com/3-3- … ures-feed/ but it is just hanging..
... finally came up. It says nothing about do's or don'ts of Sharing.
aren't we funny? online communication can be so strange. I wasn't directing being offended to you, only mentioned in light of the thread topic.
I see nothing in the learning center specifically directed to the 'share with followers' function. I use it at times to share another hubber's hub also.
I don't really see a problem, maybe cags is seeing more of it with hubbers he follows, IDK.
ok, back to work for me.
Here is the old thread where I tried to address this question before:

Wow what an interesting conversation. I also did not know we were not supposed to share our own hubs. I don't use it a lot but I have used it, hope I did not offend anyone. I guess I will leave that button alone until we get a clear answer. Thanks for bringing it up
Cagsil!
I didn't know we weren't supposed to use it. I've always hit it after I published a new hub...I thought that was what it was there for?
I've never used it. I didn't know it was there LOL
I've recently updated some of my hubs and think "Share" provides a good opportunity to put those hubs out there for those that are interested. I know I'm not personally offended by any hub links in the feed; if I'm not interested, I simply pass those by.
I was puzzled about how it was meant to be used so I am pleased there is a question about it here.
I occasionally use it to share an old hub that has new relevance, e.g. when Ramadan or Valentines day comes around again. But there's no point in sharing a new one because publishing it automatically shares it (I think?) I'll sometimes share a new non-hubpages blog post if I think folk here will like it.
I don't share comments etc, because people on the thread will see it anyway and people who have chosen not to comment don't need bits of conversation that they're not involved in.
I just found out about the "Share with Followers" recently and I thought that's what it's for. So I've been "sharing" with my followers my new hubs the last few days. I didn't even know how it works.. I mean how it comes up at the other end. So if HP doesn't really specify what the do's and don't's of this tool, should we just use it then to let our friends know that we wrote a new hub?
