         You can go into your settings and set it so that comments have to be approved before they appear. I had the same thing happen. What a nuisance!
         
         Also, because we all have our own HubPages URL, it is a good idea to go in and view all your comments and remove any comments where people have posted links leading out of HubPages. I finally did this and got rid of numerous comments. This may help with Hub Score.

   I first saw this thread two days ago, and discovered one spam comment that I denied/deleted. Since then, my traffic from Google is down to 16 hits a day instead of 70+. My overall traffic dropped from a range of 180-200 a day down to in the 60s.
   
   While trying to figure out what was going on, I used a Google search for: site: jellygator.hubpages.com and reviewed the results, where I found that a link to one of my hubs is on a site Google reports as a malicious site. I truly don't know what to do or think.

   Just found two more, obviously from the same source and definitely new as they weren't there an hour ago. I naturally only found them because I went to my comments/spam as opposed to waiting for emails (emails notifying you of spam won't happen if the system is working correctly).     I have got some inappropriate comments that have porn links in them. However, I only noticed it from activity feed. I was not notified. It must of been marked as spam automatically.

    Misty, I went on the link you provided and found no recent spam, but I found like 50 comments that were labeled as spam and they were not! These poor people were asking questions about their dogs and I had no clue, thank you, I will remember to check that link more often. You always learn something new!

       I quite often find genuine comments in there that are not spam, so I believe it is worth checking it once a day to be on the safe side. At least you didn't find yours full of those awful lengthy spam posts we have been getting in recent days

    The spam started up again today, Monday morning, after none during the weekend. At least it has been categorized as Spam. Must watch it though in case a legitimate comment is wrongly categorized as Spam.

    I changed my comment section to only let signed in visitors make comments and the spam has totally stopped.  It is too bad because I have friends who also like to make comments who are not HubPage writers...but for now, it is at least saving me some time.  Will keep checking this to see if this spam annoyance has stopped.

    During the spam attack over the weekend, I checked my spam comment folder often, and so I was reminded that there were some comments that I had flagged as spam once upon a time. I did some deleting, but did not delete every spam comment that had ever come along (because of the specific Internet connection I was using at the time). Today the spam comment folder is empty.
    
    In one respect, that is a good thing. That is, apparently after a certain amount of time the spam comments are automatically deleted by the system.  The problematic aspect is that the deleting process could include some comments that were incorrectly identified as spam (as mentioned by Alexadry, mistyh and Ms Dee above).  I guess that should give us more incentive to check the spam folder more frequently, so that mis-ID'd comments don't get deleted by accident or neglect.

    Well, a new one ambled in. This one was in French and had no links. It did have a whole bunch of actor names listed in a row and yakked about NBC. Can't figure out it's purpose, unless it was to get us accused of keyword stuffing?

       That means it's in foreign script like Japanese or Chinese. It's all for the links... I have found articles I have written mixed up just to fit in a link to a site.

       I believe they do it to build up their reputation before posting spam or just use it as copy to contain their links. I've seen some fairly amusing link + text combinations. For example, a passage from an article on fiscal responsibility with links to a payday loan site. This comment was posted to a Hub about Victorian corsets (naturally).

       I took Patty's advice that she posted in one of the prior forum posts, about going into Global settings and selecting the option to have only signed in users comment on articles. Well thank you Patty for that advice and feedback. Because so far it has proved useful on my articles, in that I haven't noticed any additional Spam comments for the past three days now.  Let's keep our fingers crossed.

    I have 8 on one hub one after the other trying to advertise Viagra - is there any way to block or report them as SPAM?
    
    And since I'm here I get questions at the top of my stats page, how do people manage to do that as I can't find out how it's done.

       I don't know the answer to your first question, but I finally figured out how to ask a question: Click the HubPages logo at the top left. You'll see some tabs that say, "Status," "Questions," and something else. You can submit a question and it will be posted to your followers.

       You can block Spam by changing the setting in your account, clicking on Comments and then the "show settings" button. Set it so that a person must login to HubPages before leaving a comment. Automated spamming does not login to sites.

       Questions at the top of your stats page are random and could come from anyone. You have no control over this.
       
       If you have a spam comment on your hub when you deny it you should get the option to report it as spam or delete forever. To be sure you have removed ALL spam you need to go to your global settings, which can be found by going to 'My Account', 'comments' (on the left), then change the box that says 'unmoderated' to 'spam'. In this place you will see any spam comments that HP have caught, and that you therefore won't have been notified about.
       
       If you want to change settings on your Global Settings Section you have the option once you click on 'My Account', 'Comments' and then 'Settings'. I recommend you select 'Comments must be approved before they appear' to avoid problems.

    I've been getting them thick and fast since about Friday. In the last hour, they've started appearing in non-English language form. The first two were in French. The latest one is perhaps Spanish or Portuguese - with one huge difference from all that I've noticed before. Some words are easily recognisable as relating to pornographic content, even when you don't understand the language...

    They keep hitting one of my hubs with daily spam, and the hub is now set to moderate all comments, and they still appear.  They also do not show up in my spam or moderated comments on my account page. This has been happening all week.

       I don't think they are being viewed anyway, Peggy.  The spam filter seems to catch mine.  Strange though, they only seem to appear when I'm on HubPages.  I was offline for a couple of days with no spam comments.  Right after I came back online the spam started appearing again. 
       
       Getting around a dozen a day now.  Sigh!  More stuff to deal with here.

    I have about five hubs all high traffic hubs that are getting hit hard but I have them set to have to approve the comments. I have reported their URL's to their hosts though. I think all are from the same person. I get the same Nike Shoe comments on about one hundred of my blogs on one host.. I always track down and report them to their host when ever I can.

    I'm still getting spam on one hub and I changed the comment settings to where I need to approve said comment and that's not working. Mine are political comments - and its a scrapbooking thread.

    Can spammers change IP addresses and countries? The spam I have been getting follows the same pattern and style (ie I guess comes from the same person or company) but when I search the ip number doesn't match and the country as well.

       Yes, I think so. I have two specific hubs which are being spammed. I've had to change my settings to moderate comments on these hubs. Every time I check the feed, I see another spam comment. The filter sometimes catches them, but not always.  It's very frustrating. They are spamming with longchamps links from Lebanon, United Arab Emirates and Rio de Janiero. I haven't checked all of them before I delete them.

          The modus operandi of these spammers are quite the same along with choice of usernames and material advertised. I did a search and it looks like people can actually purchase/rent ip addresses from China and other countries. Sad that such practices are allowed:( As many things in the internet, I guess tracking down all the trash is close to impossible:(
