Bejeweled Blitz Bonus Gems High Score Strategy Guide

Updated on October 6, 2010

Bejeweled Blitz Bonus Points Gems

Getting better scores in Bejeweled Blitz, the addictive one-minute version of Bejeweled 2, one of the top new Facebook games, requires getting bonus points, and lots of them.

How do you get bonus points in Bejeweled Blitz? By creating bonus gems.

So, how do you get bonus gems in Bejeweled Blitz? That is the great thing about this fast moving arcade-style online video game. You don't have to depend on luck or change to get your bonus points. Instead, you create your own bonuses by matching gem patterns that create bonus gems and then using those bonuses to get higher scores.

Bejeweled Bonus Gems

Getting bonus points in Bejeweled Blitz comes from creating bonus gems. To make special gems appear, you have to make certain kinds of matches. These patterns then cause the bonus gem to appear.

  • Bonus Flame Gems - The easiest of all the bonus gems to make. Creating the flaming gem bonus comes from matching 4 gems in a row instead of the usual three gem match. Obviously, you can't match 3 gems and then try and put on a 4th, because the 3 gem match will explode as soon as you make it. To get four gems in a row and make a flaming bonus gem, you need to get 2 gems together with a 3rd gem one space away. Creating the flame gem then comes when you move gem number four in between this setup.
  • Star Gems Bonus - Making a Star bonus gem is a little tougher. The concept is easy to understand, but seeing it during you one-minute game is hard. Even harder is seeing enough of the board at one time to setup a Star gem creating pattern. To make a bonus star gem, you need to create an 'L' or a 'T' pattern match. That is 3 horizontally that link to 3 vertically, either in the middle of the horizontal 3 or at the end. (Upside down T count too.) Since these can be hard to see coming, focus on getting them in Bejeweled Blitz strategy color that is preferred for your eyes.
  • Hypercube Bonus Gems - Hypercube bonus gems are fun! Create one of these powerful bonus gems and you can take out two whole rows of gems all at once. Big points indeed. Best of all, hypercubes have a way of creating high-scoring Bejeweled cascades when all of those replacement gems fall into place. To create a bonus hypercube gem you need to match 5 gems in a row of the same color. To make it happen, you'll need to line up two sets of 2 same colored gems in a row and then move lucky number five in between them. In most games it isn't worth the time it would take to manually set this up, but if you see it coming, make sure and save it if you can.

Bejeweled Blitz Speed Bonus

Finally, don't forget about the Speed Bonus in Bejeweled Blitz. Matching gems faster creates a higher and higher bonus score for each match you make. Get the speed bonus up high and then create a high-scoring cascade and watch you top score melt away into a new high score that is the highest score of all your friends.
