Best Electric RC Cars, You Need to Know Why
Battery Powered Radio Controlled Cars
I have been buying RC cars, trucks, planes, helicopters, and boats for about 20 years. I don't race them; I just like to have them as a hobby. I have only been impressed by 2 RC's I ever bought, a Nikko 4x4 truck and a Nikko speed boat, both electric, 9.6v battery powered. The rules have changed with electric RC vehicles; Traxxas has changed the electric RC hobby into action packed, adrenalin pumping, super fast well balanced day of fun. Traxxas has blown the competition out of the water with an extremely fast, affordable battery powered electric RC for the hobbyist. These new Rc's can reach speeds of an excess of 60 mph, and that's not scale speed, that is actual speed!
Fast RC Cars
The first time I saw the battery powered electric RC's from Traxxas, I was amazed by the pure power of this vehicle! I couldn't believe I had wasted money on other RC cars like Nikko and New Bright that were not even close to being as powerful and maneuverable as the Traxxas. Other battery powered electric car don't have one tenth the power of a Traxxas, for example, if I'm driving up a dirt hill, my SlashVXL is sending off a rooster tail of dirt six feet in the air all the way up the hill, or when I drive it in the grass, it just rips through it like a gas powered RC.
Just like the gas powered RC cars, Traxxas has interchangeable pinion gears for dirt or street racing. Extra parts are readily available through hobby shops and online venders, parts like; tires, rims, body kits, motors, battery packs, or whatever else you need to get you RC back on the road. Slash VXL will hit top speeds of 30+ mph right out of the box, no assembly needed. Changing the 7 cell NiMH battery to a 35LiPo battery will increase the Traxxas over all speed to about 60+ mph and run time will increase to about 45 min - 1hr, I have not jumped to this stage in the game yet, I'm still learning how to handle a car going 30 mph.
Why Brushless RC Motors?
Traxxas Slash VXL comes standard with brushed motors and the next step up is a brushless motor. I bought the brushless motor because they are pretty much maintenance free, brushed motors have a little cooing fan built into the end of the motor where dirt and debris get caught and it needs to be cleaned out, I wanted to have fun without the maintenance. I had read some customer reviews about the brushed motors having an overheating problem when they ran them hard for long periods, so to avoid any RC down time, I went brushless for an extra $80, now I'm glad I spent the extra money.
Gas RC V.S. Electric RC
I didn't want to go with a gas powered RC because I didn't want to deal with all the problems and extra equipment needed to run them. Electric RC's have come a long way, and I'm not talking about the ones you buy from Toy's R us and Wal-Mart. Traxxas does for the RC hobbyist that NASCAR does for its fans; they deliver Heart pumping, adrenalin rushing fun in a box. With the electric RC, there is no fuel to buy, no pull cord to break, and no engine stalling or bogging, just pull it out of the box, charge the battery, and you're off, right after you read the owner's manual, lol. Did I forget to mention the electric RC's of today can run head to head with the gas version?
World's Fastest Electric RC Car
Take a look at the video below, it's the world's fastest battery operated electric RC car, it's driven on a real racetrack and can reach speeds in excess of 100mph. It would take some serious driving skills to run this RC car, one wrong move and it turns into a scrap pile.
Some of the Great Features Offered by Traxxas
· Long Range Transmitter
· Full Ball Bearings
· Turnbuckles for steering adjustments
· Sealed Waterproof Electronics (Traxxas can run in the rain, mud and snow)
· Heavy Duty Driveshaft's
· Brushless Motors (No Maintenance)
· Adjustable Shocks
· High Efficiency 12 Gauge Wiring Throughout the Electrical System for Maximum Current Flow
· Multiple Transmitter Settings for Beginner, Intermediate and Expert
· Forward, Reverse and Brakes
· Digital Steering Servo for Precise Steering
Overall, I believe the Traxxas RC's are crushing their competition, nothing even comes close to reaching the top speeds that Traxxas delivers, and the tire melting horsepower is almost unbelievable, especially from a battery powered RC car. The only thing I didn't like about the complete package is the charging system. If you don't mind waiting 8 hours for you next run, than using the charger that come with the package is fine, but I wanted to have two batteries and a quick charger so I could have nonstop fun for hours. I bought the quick charger that could charge both the NiMH and the LiPo battery for the future, if I ever dare upgrade to the lithium battery.
