What is the Mechromancer?

The Mechromancer, Gaige, is a character whose special ability is to summon a Deathtrap robot that will help you fight your enemies for a certain period of time. Gaige's skills focus very heavily on dealing electric damage to you foes and having many gun bonuses, such as better accuracy, ricocheting bullets, and bonuses depending on how full your clip is. A few of her skills even allows you to upgrade the Deathtrap to give different attacks and abilities.

My Review

This character was interesting and I tried her out as me and my boyfriend were trying a run through using the DLC characters. I used the mechromancer, but please keep in mind that I dont usually play characters with these kind of abilities and build. I usually go for characters such as the siren and the assassin.

Starting out on this character I actually noticed that the Deathtrap is very useful and actually does quite a bit of damage. I found that when I was in difficult situation in which I kept getting downed and I had the Deathtrap out, the Deathtrap often made kills that would give me a second wind, especially when the enemies would be out of my line of sight.

When adding skill points into the skill trees I also tended to go mainly with Little Big Trouble as I found the new abilities incredibly strong and useful, paired with a few abilities from the Best Friends Forever tree. Even not having a level maxed character I was doing a pretty good job destroying enemies with these skills and my Deathtrap, even if the enemies were my level or a level or two higher. The one tree I have pretty much no interest in is the Ordered Chaos tree, however it may be a play style someone else prefers.

While I find this character fun to play, and just as fun as the starter characters, I dont exactly see anything particularly unique or amazingly special about her. The Deathtrap reminds me a little bit of a mobile turret you can get with the Commando class. However, if you are looking for a new class to get a slightly different style of play through Borderlands, or even just really like the look of the character and her available skill, I would recommend giving it a shot, as it adds to the playability of the game in my opinion. This DLC character goes for $10, which personally I find a bit over priced for simply a character DLC and not a new campaign DLC, but what are you going to do?

4 stars for Mechromancer Character DLC
