LEGO City Coast Guard was a sub theme of the much larger Lego City Theme which inlcuded sets that covered all activities of one of the recurring organizations of Lego City. Coast Guard vessels and minifigures were released in quite a few specific Coast Guard themed sets as well as being included in other non-specific sets. Various Coast Guard themed sets have appeared as far back as 1976 and they appeared infrequently over subsequent years until 2003 when a group of Coast Guard sets were released as part of the World City Theme. But it was 2008 that saw the largest selection of Lego Coast Guard sets released as a collection of 9 sets were released under the City Theme.

The sets in this sub-theme varied from big sets with lots of pieces that took ages to build to the small minisets with just a small number of pieces designed to flesh out the City landscape. This sub theme meant that Lego City expanded even further and stretch into the water nearby.

The Lego City Coast Guard Patrol Boat and Tower Set was released in 2008 and features a Coast Guard patrol boat which floats and the Coast Guard tower, along with 4 minifigures of Coast Guards. This set contains 444 pieces.

The Coast Guard patrol boat actually floats and there is a crane which turns 360 degrees and moves up and down, a command centre whose roof can be lifted and a raft. The Coast Guard Tower has a dock and a satellite dish on top of it. Inside the Coast Guard Tower there is a control station, a first aid station and a place to store equipment. You can use the crane to lower the raft into the water, lift the roof on the boat to access the controls and lower the anchor into the water.
