Crafting in The Sims Social Facebook Game

How can you tell which items have to be put together?

Once you expand beyond gardening in The Sims Social, you will probably find yourself wanting to do some Crafting. There are two kinds of Crafting: building items that you buy from the store, and Crafting special bonus items.

Crafting Special Items

At the lower right-hand corner of the main screen there is a button for Craft. If you click it, you get a pop-up window with all of the items you can Craft.

“Craft,” in this case, just means “gather up all the required items.” When you have the right assortment of items, you can just click the green Use button to use the crafted item.

Given how quickly the game refills your needs when you queue up an action (like Sleep or Dance) it seems a bit silly to waste your time Crafting items that instantly replenish these needs. It can be handy to have an extra Energy point or two when you need it. But the best Crafting items are those which grant you Energy, Simoleons, or XP.

  • Inspired Potion: Instantly become inspired
  • DD Coffee Boost: +1 Energy
  • Fun Potion: Instantly replenish Fun
  • Magic Soap: Instantly replenish Hygiene
  • Good Night’s Sleep: Instantly replenish Sleep
  • Insta-Snack: Instantly replenish Hunger
  • Bad Mood Potion: Instantly have a bad mood
  • Repair Collection: 200 Simoleons and 50 XP
  • Cleaning Collection: 150 Simoleons and 3 Energy
  • +5 Energy: 5 Energy

Building Sims Social Store Items

When you go shopping for new items for your Sim’s home, you will notice that some of them have a particular icon which means that you have to build them. (It took me a while to realize that this icon is a cartoon hammer.)

These are like flat-pack furniture from Ikea, except that instead of an Allen wrench and some metal pegs, you need Crafting ingredients. For example, I recently bought the Comic Art Drafting Board. Before you can use this item, you have to gather one Dreams, five Love, and eight Fury.

Finding Rare Ingredients

Here is a list of where to find most crafting ingredients. I have found that painting is the best way to obtain Cleaning items (including the Duster, Rubber Gloves, and Cloth).

One of the best ways to get Plans is to get a Cowplant, and give your Sim at least one Insane point. Then your Sim will have the interaction “Is it time for tea?” When you perform this interaction on a Cowplant, it usually drops Simoleons as well as Plans.

How To Get More SimCash

If you cannot find your ingredients, or you don’t want to bother looking for them, you can buy them instead. Most ingredients can be bought for five SimCash. Currently, you can buy twelve SimCash for $2 USD.

You can also earn free SimCash if you log into the game every day. On the fifth day in a row, you will usually get 10 free SimCash.

There are also sometimes special promotions. For example, as of this writing you can earn a whopping 215 SimCash by signing up for the Disney Movie Club.
