Crysis 2 on PS3 is broken
First, a few words about myself. I own both a PS3 and an Xbox360 and I love them both. I've been a collector of everything videogame for almost 20 years now and I am in no way biased, a fanboy or whatever. I do not want to bash anyone with this Hub, I simply want to warn people. Please keep that in mind.
I will keep this short and simple: The PS3 version of Crysis 2 is inferior to the Xbox360 and PC versions of the game. The graphics -and basically the one thing the Crysis series stands for - have taken an especially huge hit. The resolution on the PS3 is lower for some reason and the graphics itself are blurrier than on the Xbox (The game looks best on PC, so I will keep this comparison between the two consoles). This doesn't help that the framerate stutters more often than not and while this may be acceptable in Single Player, it can be a huge annoyance in Multiplayer, as the dropping framerate actually affects your control of the game. Also, there are a lot of issues with shadows, details and textures in general (check out the video below for an example). Shadows generate before your very eye and textures switch their detail level constantly. And if that wasn't enough, there is also severe popup: Sometimes I saw an enemy in the distance, only to have him disappear behind a tree that magically sprung up when I looked down the scope of my sniper rifle! Again, in Single Player this can be overlooked as long as the gameplay is solid (which it most certainly is) but in Multiplayer it's just unacceptable.

It all makes for one very unfinished looking game.
Some people may be saying that graphics aren't everything and that the title of this Hub is too drastic and extreme. Well, I agree, graphics aren't everything in games. But you have to keep three things in mind:
- This is Crysis we're talking about, so awesome, cutting-edge graphics are to be expected. Crytek seemingly uses every opportunity they can get to shove "Achieved with Cryengine 3" down our throats, so the least we can expect is a solid, finished looking game.
- The graphics directly affect the gameplay with the stuttering framerate and popups, so it is definitely a factor that can reduce the enjoyment of the game immensely.
- Prior to release, Crytek promised us that the PS3 version will look exactly like the Xbox360 version; a promise they blatantly broke. And this can also be seen as one of the reasons why I called this game "broken" in the Hubs title; According to Crytek, the game was supposed to be just as good as the Xbox360 version, but it is clearly not. What PS3 users get instead is a shoddy port that appears more like an afterthought than anything else. And seeing how the PS3 isn't technically inferior to the Xbox360, there is just no excuse for that.
I also experienced several connection problems when playing online, although I can not and will not say for sure that this is a problem restricted to the PS3 version. Seeing as how the PS3 demo was deactivated almost immediately because of connection issues it's easy to assume that those problems aren't really fixed yet, but I can't be sure so I will just leave this as a slight warning.
Let me be clear here: Crysis 2 is still an enjoyable and fun game, and if you only own a PS3, I think it's still worth checking out (but it's best to rent it first to see if the graphics hinder your enjoyment of the game). But the fact is that this version of the game is inferior to the other ones for no apparent reason and this after the developer promised that there wouldn't be any differences. This is something that I personally can not accept. PS3 users got the short end of the stick once again and I don't think we have to stand for this.
