Games to Play With Dice

Updated on August 18, 2015

Dice

Dice are a part of many board games, but without the board, cards, and pieces, what can you do with the dice alone?

Well, I'm a lover of dice. I actually have a small collection of various die ranging from different colors, sizes, materials, and shapes.

You can find wood dice, metal dice, plastic dice, fuzzy dice, tiny dice, large dice, jumbo dice, 6- sixed dice, 12- sided dice, other multiple sided dice, and so many other different types of new and old dice.

But, what can you do with them besides look at them and play board games?

Below you'll find various games from the traditional Yahtzee to dirty sex games that you can play with dice. Or, you can buy poker and slot dice to play a different style game.

Yahtzee

Okay, the traditional, most common game you'd probably think of when playing with dice would be Yahtzee. It's a simple game of chance and the skill of the roll.

You need 5 die. Each person gets the chance to throw the die twice, in attempts to get various scores and roll types. Below is a list of the different combinations that you want to achieve when playing Yahtzee.

  • 1's: add all the ones.

  • 2's: add all the twos.

  • 3's: add all the threes.

  • 4's: add all the fours.

  • 5's: add all the fives.

  • 6's: add all the sixes.

  • 3 of a Kind: 20 points for 3 die of the same value.

  • 4 of a Kind: 35 points for 4 die of the same value.

  • Full House: 25 points for a 3 of a kind and 2 of a kind.

  • Small Straight: 30 points for 4 in a row (1,2,3,4)

  • Large Straight: 40 points for 5 in a row (1,2,3,4,5)

  • Yahtzee: 50 points if all of the die are the same value.

  • Chance: add up all values of the die for any combination.

Older Dice Games

Hazard- A game traditionally played during the Revolutionary War. The soldiers would hammer musket balls into the shape of dice, and play the game of Hazard.

In a multiple player game, the person who has the die, the shooter, rolls the dice (usually played with 2 dice). If the player rolls a 2, 3, or a 12, he loses his turn to the next player on the left. Otherwise, if the shooter gets any other number, he gets to throw again until either the first number is thrown, which means he wins the round, or he throws a 9, which means he loses to the next person. This continues until each person gets to roll the dice. Whoever gets the most throws wins the game.

* Note- some rules of the game claim that if you roll a 7, instead of a 9, you lose your turn to the next player on the left.

Baseball Dice

You only need one die for this game. First, draw a baseball diamond on a piece of paper, and mark the bases (1, 2, 3, and mark home base 4). The first player with the die rolls, and a marker is place at the appropriate base for throwing a 1, 2, 3, or 4. Subsequent throws advance the runners on base.

If you roll a 5 or a 6, you give the batter and "out," and after three outs the inning is over.

The player with the most runs at the end of a 9 inning game, is the winner.

Hasbro Boggle

Boggle

Boggle is a word game using special dice with letter imprinted on them. This is another fun Hasbro, Inc, game for the family. Using 16 dice, you shake up the container and where the dice lay, try to make as many words as you can before the timer runs out.

The object of the game is to make the most words during the game.

Although, this game isn't played with traditional, number die, it is still a game of dice.

Sex Games with Dice

Using special dirty dice, you and your partner can play "get lucky" games.

Using the dice, you roll to get the instructions for a new way to enjoy sexual relations with your partner.

These fun, usually 6- sided dice aren't your average numbered, dice. Although, it would be interesting to see what sex games one could come up with using a numbered die.

This allows you to have a good time with your partner, spicing up your love life, but remember that with any sexual relations, do so safely.
