Introduction

This hub is going to talk about Tiki, the second of two first generation Manaketes that you can recruit in Fire Emblem: Awakening. Tiki is the character with the largest backstory in the entire game, due to her age and presence in Marth's time.

Long story short, she is the princess of the Divine Dragon tribe, a tribe directly descended from Naga. She originally meets Marth in the Fane of Raman (a location that lies somewhere south-west of Regna Ferrox in the present-day) near the end of the young prince's journey. She then uses her considerable powers as a Manakete to aid Marth and his army in their fight against the Shadow Dragon, Medeus.

Of course, since the above paragraph is largely irrelevant for Fire Emblem: Awakening's story, it isn't mentioned in any real capacity (in Awakening, you know that she traveled with Marth and that she is the Voice of the Divine Dragon, but little else).

Overview

So, who is Tiki?

As mentioned in the Introduction, Tiki has quite the storied existence, seeing as she is well over two thousand years old. Even so, if we were to correlate Manakete years to human years, she is barely more than a young adult in terms of overall lifespan. She once traveled with Marth in his own journey to save the continent of Archanea from the clutches of a Shadow Dragon. Her main character defining trait is her naivete. Since she has been isolated from everyone and anyone for a long time, she's ignorant of many worldly things (such as having her image monetized by one very greedy Anna; check their support conversations out for details). However, she is also very wise and cares deeply about her friends. In game terms, Tiki is the second Manakete from the first generation and is actually an optional character.

Where can I get Tiki?

Tiki joins automatically at the end of Paralogue 17. In this paralogue, Tiki is an allied unit who has no Dragonstone equipped, and every single enemy is a flier that will attempt to kill her if possible (defenseless units rank pretty high on the AI's list of possible attack targets). So, you'll probably have to bring as many high Defense and high Resistance units as possible, and make a wall around Tiki (making sure that no enemies can hit her from one or two squares). Given the chapter's quality as optional, you might want to put it off for later if you can't beat it at the time.

Why should I use Tiki?

She has extremely high base stats and growths. She has a 30% chance to get 2 HP at level up (130% total HP growth) and starts with 39 HP at Level 20 (+5 HP for each difficulty above Normal; capping at 49 for Lunatic). Tiki is perfectly usable as a Manakete and, in fact, I highly recommend that you use a Second Seal on her once she caps at Level 30, just to bring her back down to a Level 1 Manakete (she stands a fair chance of capping all of her stats given those extra 29 levels, and that's always a plus).

Of course, Tiki shares the same problem as Say'ri in terms of her possible supports, although she is slightly better off in terms of total possible supports.

Let's see: Tiki can marry a male My Unit, have a support with a female My Unit, and with the following other units:

  1. Anna
  2. Say'ri
  3. Lucina
  4. Nah (Nowi's child; this one surprised me when I noticed it)

This does open up some neat pairings if you're dead-set on using Tiki though, which does make her a little more viable in heated confrontations than Say'ri.

Basically, Tiki is another member of the crutch characters club that Fire Emblem: Awakening gives players at the tail end of the game to compensate for any serious casualties in the early part of the game.

(Heck, I use her on occasion, in spite of what I have said about her crutch status. She's Tiki, for crying out loud! Granted, you'll probably like her more by default if you have played Shadow Dragon like I did).

Huge growths on Tiki, to say the least. 115% HP as a Mage/Sage is ridiculous, although I wouldn't class change Tiki into either of those, ever. Basically, if you don't mind ridiculous grinding, you can get the "-breaker" skills from the two promoted flier classes and then change back to a Manakete. Then, you'd be trumping enemy Dragon types (Wyvern Riders/Lords basically), lance users, and sword users.

(Nowi can do that too, if you're feeling devious).

I already mentioned Manakete skills over at the Nowi hub, but here's a summary:

  • Odd Rhythm is the counterpart to a Taguel's Even Rhythm and grants 10 Hit and Avoid on every odd-numbered turn.
  • Wyrmsbane allows Manaketes to deal effective damage to Dragon type units when the user is a Manakete.

There's not much else to say.. Both shapeshifter classes have functional skills, but they're not much to talk about.

Tips and Tricks for using Tiki

  • Tiki will have 28 Defense to work with at Normal difficulty thanks to her Dragonstone + and her decent base Defense (she'll have 30 total Defense on Hard and 33 Defense on Lunatic). This easily qualifies her for a front-line role. The best part is that you can even pair her up with Lucina or My Unit if you want to build their support up.
  • As with other Manaketes, keep Tiki far away from enemies with Wyrmslayers. There's quite nothing like losing a unit to an enemy that deals effective damage.
  • You could always pair up Tiki with a lower-leveled unit and have Tiki be the support unit in that pairing. Tiki gets to contribute, and your weaker unit gets bonus stats.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Tiki is the second first generation Manakete that you can recruit in Fire Emblem: Awakening. Tiki's base stats, combined with her Dragonstone +, allow her to be a usable part of your army from her time of recruitment. However, she can only support with a few of the units in your army, which limits her ability to boost stats via Pair Up.

Even so, Tiki is perhaps the only crutch character worth using, by virtue of her class. The benefits of having a second Manakete outweigh the relative lack of possible supports.

I have to say, I've been using the downloadable Tiki, freaking awesome. She's currently taking a stroll through Dark Flier to get Galeforce. I don't know, I guess I just like her more than this Tiki (though technically they are the same person. Oh well :3)

I'm still working on getting Galeforce on her, but I've been distracted. I'm trying to get /all/ of the children. Right now I only have Lucina, Cynthia, Nah, Yarne, Owain & Morgan (Female Mankete :3). I'm working on Inigo & Laurent. I don't know why, but I fell in love with Inigo when I first saw him. He's so adorable :D. He's going to be a very used person on my team :'D

Bro, that chapter tip is bogus. That's what i first tried. You don't have enough units allowed to wall effectively. You have to send 3 good wind/archers to either side, and send four to the front to fend off the bottom. Keep one or two units near tiki in case any slip through. 4 turns of reinforcements, with the sides gaining one more in count every turn til turn 5 and the bottom always getting 4. Recommend some spotpass mages like michiah or gharnef.

@Dia: Well, the best mother for female Morgan is probably Nowi in terms of optimization but failing that, Tiki (or even Nah if you go that way), will do fine.

Why so I just feel that the Male MU and Tiki are just... right? Male MU reminds Tiki of Marth (for those of you who've played Marth's original games or their remakes), the man she almost certainly had a crush on, and Morgan both looks and acts like Tiki. And, it might just be me, but does anyone else see this following set up as 100% cannon; the blood of the dragon of light, Naga, and that of Grima, the dragon of darkness, coming together into one being- does this not just sound like something that should be? I want to do this pair up so bad, but she comes in the last Paralouge, meaning not only will I be pressed for time in getting an S-Rank, but I won't get much time to work Morgan up to her full potential. Should I dare try it...?
